The Forum Flagship section is where forum members can have an input on which photo will appear in the header on a month-to-month basis. Submissions relevant to the theme can be made by members throughout the month. Near the end of each month, a vote will be held to determine what appears on our header for the following month.
The preferred size for the header image is 1200 x 340. However, we will accept submissions from 1080 x 300 up to 1200 x 340*.*Submissions outside of these requirements will be ineligible. Please note that any image posted in a nomination thread must not be any wider than 1024 pixels. Images posted to the forum that exceed 1024 pixels will be deleted. We ask that you post your image at a reduced size to the forum and provide a link to the full-size image below it. To keep the end-of-month voting manageable, members are asked to submit no more than three entries per month. Under special circumstances, this may be overruled by a staff member. Topics will be announced early in the month. Submissions will then be collected until 9:00 PM PST on the second to last day of each month. Voting will last for approximately 24 hours. Please check the relevant thread frequently for any changes to the deadlines. To make the threads more manageable, please do not post the same submissions multiple times throughout the topic. There may be occasions where pictures of scale models will be accepted as nominations. If so, this will be mentioned in the nomination thread. Please do not add West Coast Ferries Forum to your Forum Flagship submissions. You may add the location, vessel, date or photographer preferably in the lower left or lower right hand corner of your submission. To the best of your ability, we ask that the horizon and/or subject in your submission be as level as possible. Slanted photographs cause the upper section of the forum to become lopsided to the viewer and appear unprofessional. If you need assistance, please PM any staff member. Do not submit photographs that were not taken by yourself unless you have proper permission from the originating photographer. Responsibility of the images submitted are those of the contributor, not West Coast Ferries Forum and/or its staff.
The nomination that finishes in first place will be displayed on the headers of the West Coast Ferries Forum Facebook page and Twitter page.
Staff reserve the right to alter, change or modify the image displayed as Forum Flagship at any time.

New regulations coming into effect. These surround the appearance and format of flagship submissions.
Adding text to a flagship photo is completely optional and at the discretion of the contributor. However, if you feel that text would enhance and compliment your submission, we ask that you follow these guidelines. Remember, text should be used to enhance your photo, and should not be the first thing the user sees. Generally, the less text, the better.Text that may be included, if the user feels inclined:Name of ferry Copyright information Location information (only if outlined by the Flagship Conductor or not obvious from photo) Text that should not be included:Dates Location information (if obvious and not outlined by Flagship Conductor) Other information seen as irrelevant Text Appearance:
Text should be written in white, using a simple, easy-to-read font. If the background is light, or white is otherwise not legible, please use black. Proper spaces and sizing for text on the image:Any of the four corners (copyright information should go on the bottom). Here is an example (text should roughly stay outside of the brown areas): These will come into effect for submissions on February 1st, for the March flagship. If you have any questions, please post here or send me a PM. Thanks for your co-operation!

Process for creating and uploading photos using Photoshop and Flickr:1. Create a blank image in Photoshop and re-size it to be 1200 pixels wide by 340 pixels tall, the appropriate size and shape for the Forum Banner. 2. Open the photo you want to use for the banner. 3. Crop that photo using the crop tool so it is approximately the same rectangular shape as the 1200x340 pixel banner image. It doesn't have to be perfect. 4. Then copy the cropped photo, and paste into blank 1200x340 file. 5. Re-size and shift the cropped photo so it looks good. Sometimes it requires going back and forth between the 2 files to re-crop as necessary to get the best fit. 6. When editing is done, save the 1200x340 file as a JPEG. 7. Upload save JPEG file into your Flickr photostream. 8. Open photo and select the "share" button - it's in the row of icons in the bottom right corner of the screen 9. That brings up this dialog box - select BBCode and large size (1024x290) - copy text in the box to clipboard 10. Open WCFF, and navigate to flagship banner thread. 11. Click Reply, and create image brackets (see screenshot below) to paste your image into. Paste clipboard text between the image brackets, and edit out unneeded text elements, as demonstrated in this screenshot - highlighted text is what you need to keep: 12. Go back to Flickr dialog box and select original size (1200x340) - copy that text to clipboard 13. In the WCFF thread, paste clipboard text below the copied image, and edit out unneeded text, as in Step 11. This will create a link to the full size file on your Flickr page.
