Queen of Chilliwack Route 40 Trip
« Thread Started on Aug 23, 2008, 1:24am »

Esquimalt Queen and Myself completed a 3 day trip on the Queen of Chilliwack on the North Coast from August 9th to 12th, 2008.

I have completed the pages for days 1 and 2. Day 3 and 4 will be coming shortly once I get all of my images cropped and sized properly.

I unlike other members do not use the forum to relay my stories, but my own website. Here is a link to day 1.

http://www.queenofchilliwack.ca/ferrytrips/DiscoveryCoast.htm

Cheers,

P.S. I have been having trouble with my ISP so if its down don't worry. Also I will still be editing these two pages a little more later too.

re this website comment:

So we left Bear Cove and then headed for the open ocean and the only open ocean part of the trip.

Did you sleep through the Milbanke Sound part of the trip on Sunday in the early afternoon, and again that evening? ;D

---------------------

I enjoyed reading the first 2 pages; I look forward to the rest of them.

ps: Interesting that you made the same mistake as me re choosing a window-seat recliner chair, and then finding out too late that it didn't recline all the way. Did you read that part of my story beforehand? Were any of mine & Karl's photos and comments helpful to you & Donella, re the planning of your trip?

pps: Is this your first experience of finding yourself in a public place dressed only in your underwear? That is some people's greatest fear. I always check for pants, before I walk out my front door..... ;D

Yeah I forgot about Milbank sound, but Milbank is fairly protected and you don't get the swells like in Smith sound. :o

I totally forgot that you had done an essay too. Ohh well next time. :)

I don't think I have ever been anywhere public in my underwear before. This was the first time I have ever been in a situation like this. Usually I get up and walk around the house in my underwear, so when I was on board i continued that tradition until I realized I wasn't in chilliwack anymore I was on the chilliwack. :-X

Cheers,

Hahaha. Too funny. I think now, after seeing how much fun you guys have had, I'll start planning a trip for myself and whoever else who is interested for one of these trips on the Wack next summer.

I'm definitely interested in doing that trip again, in 2009. It's a good thing to do, once a year.

I have never had a big Wack attack. I would love to do the midcoast on her before she gets reassigned/retired.

Donella, thanks a bunch for sharing those pics. With a few exceptions, your trip was much the same as mine & Karl's in June. You guys lucked out having the fun-crew; we had the no-fun-allowed crew.

I think that you 2 experienced more of what a fun Coastal live-aboard ship can be. There was a sense of community in your pics, such as the galley-crew making the wedding-cake.

What was your favourite ferry-food on the trip? Did you try the Klemtu fried-chicken?

Flug get a tattoo like Donella's and maybe you will find the fun crews too. :P I don't know who the crews were but on my trips on the Inside Passage there seemed to be very different atmosphere on the ships - I put it down to a different crew but it also could be whether they are fresh in their rotation or at the end of one.

How would I look with a low-cut shirt, and a #69 tag? Let me know if there's interest, and I'll print up some pics for Christmas cards.....

There's this guy named Jeremy, and he is one of the regular passengers on that route. I was chatting with him one night about how great the crew is, and he said he's travelled with all the different crews on route 40, and out of all, this crew Brett and I travelled with is the best and most fun.

Congratulations Brett & Donella...

A ferry fine narrative, and photos too. Very entertaining. Thank you both.

I did this Saturday-Monday trip on the labour-day weekend. It was really busy and crowded for the first night.

See my trip-story on the forum's public trip thread.

K-Teen: If you want to experience the remote coast and to see how communities rely on ships (similar to how things were in the CP Steamship & Union steamship days), and if you don't mind sleeping "where-ever and when-ever", then I think you should do this trip. Just don't pick a long weekend to do it.

I'm in... I'm not going to pick a busy weekend, and I so Don't mind any of that "Sleeping on the floor" stuff. I would also like to explore around with something that isn't that structured, "Go with the flow" if you will, and I'd love to sleep on a ferry/boat/ship. Never done that before
