They look so sad, just sitting there, two sisters just rusting away, both waiting for something that may never come... waiting, just patiently waiting...slowly getting older, thinking of better days, the good ol' sixties, when they were young, galavanting back and forth on the gulf full of eager families... Now feeling abandoned, they forget to put on their make-up, some breakouts appearing here and there, blotching their pure white skins, feeling shameful, worthless. One day, their prince will come and save them, one day they will ply the seas again.

I'm feeling kinda woozy tonight...

I think this is sort of cool - a repeat of BC Ferries' history for their upcoming 50th anniversary :D

What I am referencing is a couple period's, mid-70's, and late 80's-ish when BCF had several surplus ferries kicking around the 'system' and no where to put them. At that time the Sunshine Coast became home to several of these vessels, the Suzy Q being moored quite near Langdale (closer to Gibsons/Keats).

If you look closely at their masts, you can see the diamond shape is still drawn from when they were under tow. A diamond must be displayed on ships over 200m in length when they're under tow. Just thought it was kind of neat to see that displayed up there instead of flags.

They look so proud sitting there...and so they should! I guess other ships will take over their legacy but I'll hang on to their history as long as I can.

They sure do! It's kind of strange having them amongst the harbour scenery now.

Here's a stitch (using the UBC-created software from http://www.autostitch.net ) of the Queen of Vancouver's Forward Observation Lounge:

I was thinking of entering this into the Forum Flagship contest, but with so many other potential entries in my archives it's still up in the air if this ends up one of my three.

I went down to the 'Port of Nanaimo' docks today and thought instead of ignoring the private property signs like most people apparently do i would do it the proper way and go and ask at the Port office if i could go and get pics ot the 2 Queens.A fellow named Wayne said sure as long as i stayed off the actual dock they are tied up to.The weather was overcast when i first got there but as i started taking pics it was like it was meant to be as the clouds parted and i had beautiful sunshine and great weather. The end result is i didn't need to go on the actual dock they are tied up to as i walked around way out past and got 96 great zoom bow on shots, side shots galore!...It pays to ask and do it the proper way as i found out....Not sure how to put pics on here but will add some to my 7 sisters photo bucket site later.......

Thank you for sharing those, 7sisters.

I have gone ahead and added the URL to your photobucket account to your post so that those who have signatures disabled may view them.

You have a lot of worthwhile stuff in your album, some of which you might consider re-posting in the particular threads, such as the Sechelt Queen thread. That stern view is one of the nicest post-op photos I've seen of her. You have enough Langdale Queen shots to start a thread in the historical area as well; we don't have one for her, and she was the oldest BC Ferry ever.
