Lately, every time I look at the 'newest member' area on the front page, I see a name in black that obviously isn't actually a new member. Are we having a rash of spammers?

A spambot has been using various @mail15.com addresses to register here. That domain is on the banned list here so anyone using that e-mail domain can't complete the registration process.

Hello everyone, my name is Jason. I have stumbled across this forum about a year ago, and I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts. Ever since I was a kid, ferries have been a big passion. My first ferry ride was when I was 3 years old, on the Queen of Vancouver. Ever since that ride, she has been my favourite ferry by far. My only hobby is photography around British Columbia. I look forward in taking part in the many discussions on this forum.
Cheers, Jason.

Jason, lets hope it's a better time that when you joined previously, and we had to disable guest-posting after a ridiculous few days of spamming this forum. That was one of the worst abuses of guest-posting & member-registration that we've ever seen here.
Here's hoping things work out better this time, given that a couple years have passed.

I'm terribly sorry about the past Flugel, I've grown out of that level of immaturity, and looking forward to appropriate and proper contributions to this forum.

Hello everyone, I'm Michael. I have found this forum recently after searching on the web for more information about what has happened to BC Ferries' V-Class ships as well as other the other ships that were part of the original fleet. I have ridden a few of the V-Class ships over the years, but my favorite was always the Esquimalt, as it was the one I rode most frequently. My family has a summer place on the Sunshine Coast, so when it was the spare ferry, I rode it a few times each summer between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay. I was always happy to see her arrive at Horseshoe Bay instead of the Queen of Surrey. While I was aboard her many times, I took her for granted and never thought to take pictures. I also feel lucky to have ridden the Queen of Tsawwassen twice, once from Earl's Cove to Saltery Bay (and return) as well as on the Tsawwassen-Southern Gulf Islands route. Those two trips were both before she was repainted into the current BC Ferries paint scheme. I also took the Lady Rose to Bamfield once in the early 2000's before she was retired. While BC's coastal ships (BC Ferries in particular) have always been of interest to me, My main interest has and always will be trains, and I am currently working towards getting a job on the railway. I look forward to contributing to the many discussions on this forum.

Glad to have you aboard, Michael. It's especially appreciated having a new member dedicated to the theme of this kind of transportation in general (such as trains, coastal shipping, etc.).
A belated welcome aboard goes out to Jason (and others who I've missed from earlier this year). It's always great to have another photographer out there capturing history in the making of our ferries.

You can thank my grandfather for exposing me to BC's shipping history. He has lent me, on many occasions, his copies of Robert Turner's books on the Empresses and Princesses, as well as letting me borrow his copy of "The Ships of British Columbia" until I got my own.

Then you're certainly ahead of the curve in terms of required reading (not actually required, of course ) around here. It really is fortunate that we have so many quality books about our region's coastal shipping history to learn from by great authors such as Turner, Lamb, Hacking, etc.

Interesting, but I definitely do not have a tattoo of the Queen of Esquimalt on my arm. Is this the tattoo? www.keeferstreet.com/gallery/queenofesquimalt/28.jpg

Anyone ever hear of Lydia the Tattoed Lady? Sorry that i made the initial joke, but I just couldn't believe that anyone else other than Donella would ever use the Queen of Esquimalt as their forum name.

I guess having found this page I should ad my two cents here. Im Crysty aka Piglet a nic of long standing. I grew up sailing the gulf islands on dad's Thunderbird in the '60's and '70's and well remember most of the boats of the time. I was very glad to stumble on to the forum as its fun to see the pics of boats of my youth (the day "cruises" of the gulf islands on the Mayne Queen) and to stay on top of whats happening now Im marooned in the wilds of Alberta. So many of my fav's are gone now or going soon. I thank you all for the lovely pics you post. If I could get at the family pics I would find some of the slides dad took but they are on the island and for the near future I remain marooned.

Seem to remember one of one of my sisters in full Victorian dress on the Mayne with the islands in the back ground. Not something you see too often.

Hi all I figure since I've finally moved from lurking to posting something I should introduce myself. I've been reading this forum for a couple of years now but have never posted up until now. My name is Terry and I'm a semi-regular (every 2-5 weeks) route 1 passenger and have found this a great place to come to find out what exactly is going on. I work at the Coast Guard MCTS (vessel traffic & coast guard radio) centre in Vancouver so I also work with the ferries on a daily basis.
