There is more snow in the forecast for Victoria Vancouver and Nanaimo for the next two days. No snow warnings yet though!

We are finally beginning to see some winter weather here on the east coast. Still no snow for the Philly area in the forecast, though north and south west of us got hit fairly hard.

Ugh... more snow today in the Puget Sound area. Most of it in the Seattle area seems to have melted off now.

Like anyone cares anymore......We've got another 5 inches over night, and still counting. Supposed to turn to rain later on in the afternoon though. The Sea to Sky is also closed just south of Squamish, due to an accident. Schools are still open. Just another day, and the snow doesn't seem to slow anyone down anymore....Except for the fact it's making me lose money now. Maybe I'll go look for a new job today, with this extra day off....

Well, the snow has finally started in the NJ area. We aren't supposed to get a lot, but it is the first of the season, and some might even stick. The last week has dumped some nasty weather on most of the US, so I guess we are lucky to just be getting a few little flurries. It's actually enjoyable! But, then it is only the first time we've had snow this season...very unusual for this area. Well, some might stick, and then you'll be hearing a different story from me...I thought Vancouver drivers left something to be desired when it came to snow. ;D

I got a pair of these things last week just before the big storm hit: They're traction devices that fit on shoes. They're very handy.

Rain. Back to typical West Coast weather, and that snowfall warning earlier this morning sure hit hard, 2-5 cm throughout. Then, about noon, it turned to rain, and now it's all just slush. Icky sticky slimy slush. I hate to be the one to say it, but 'bout time.

This is, I believe, made by a company called Yaktrax ( www.yaktrax.ca/ ). They are based in BC I think. Their products are popular with letter carriers and others who spend a lot of time outdoors on snowy streets and sidewalks.

About the snow, we have had an additional 25 cm here today. So far this winter we have probably had a total of 4 metres, but it melts almost as fast as it snows. There is an accumulation of 1.5 metres ± in my front yard.

Regarding flooding, apparently there is almost 200% more snow pack on the coastal and interior mountains, so if we do get an extended warm stretch in the spring, there could be some serious flooding.

I heard one account comparing the whole experience to being in a disco...very loud and the lights kept going on and off! ;D
I have also heard the trains in Germany could not run due to fears they could derail in the crosswinds, and at one station, a structural steel support was torn off the structure. I've experienced wind like that once while in Kelowna, but that storm lasted maybe an hour. It ripped the front canopy clean off one of the hotels, and our little 16 foot aluminum boat was picked up and thrown over 200 feet.

We had another 45 cm of new snow yesterday to add to the 1.5 to 3 metre deep piles in the front yard of my home here on BC's inland North Coast (Kitimat). Rain today has compacted it all down somewhat. It may take till the end of April for it all to melt.
This is the snowiest winter we have had since 1999. That year, in February, we had 118 cm in one 24 hour period.

Well, not the snow, but the drivers. I only have this to say! IF YOU ARE GOING TO DRIVE 25MPH IN THE FAST LANE ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE ON THE ROAD AT ALL! Okay, that's better. Actually the snow is okay, we didn't get hit by the 6 to 10 (180 to 300cm) feet that upstate NY and east got, just a couple of days of snow, sleet and freezing rain to turn the roads to grease in spots totalling about 4 inches (10cm).
