What do you guys think? Did spring officially start on the South Coast a couple weeks ago? Spring might be starting to spring on the south coast but here, well, it is probably a bit too early to think of winter as being over. Back in 1999, on the 18th of February, we received about 120 cm of white stuff in 18 hours. This was the result... That is my house & front yard, and my son up on the snow pile.

I hate to bump this topic back up, but................we got another blast of the white stuff this morning. Only about an inch or so, which will probably be all gone by the afternoon. Yesterday, we got about an inch of snow as well, and by the afternoon it was clear sunny blue skies, and I was out working in a t-shirt. Absolutely bizarre weather........

We have had a real wallop from winter here - 60 cm of new snow in the past 24 hours, road closures, avalanches, power outages - will spring ever come.
If you are living on a flood plain (Fraser Valley, for instance) you had better start preparing for the big melt.

I think we had about 24 hours of clear skys down here! Finally a couple of beautiful days in a row. Is this one of the reasons Kitimat is the community in BC with the fastest rate of declining population?

Just when you thought this topic was done for the year... This photo, taken last month, is on the powerline right of way between Kitimat & Kemano. The snow depth there is greater than any year since they started measuring 50+ years ago. Note the snow mushroom on the roof of the shelter. All that snow has hardly begun to melt yet.

Looks like all of you guys got that wet snow, that gets the roads nice and slushy. We've now got 14inches and counting of champagne powder, and a strong temperature of -4 degrees Celcius, or 25 degrees F. At the same time, we're on a flood alert with the 6 inches of rain expected for tomorrow....Going to be an interesting week...

At the same time, we're on a flood alert with the 6 inches of rain expected for tomorrow....Going to be an interesting week... We're up to at least 15 inches in some places out in Chilliwack and Abbotsford... they were predicting 10-12 inches for today when there were already at least 5 inches on the ground... It's mostly light, dry icy snow here, but then there was some freezing rain which put a crust on it, and now some wet rain that is making it all soggy

Having had to drive around and deliver in this stuff: Saturday (I did just these areas) - Surrey and Langley/Aldergrove border had more snow than any other place. Heaviest was around 270th and 58th area, where I had to plow thru 8" by mid morning already. This was a local concentration, as surrounding streets had less than 5". Abbotsford had about 2" by 1100, and Mission had only a trace. Back across the bridge and into Chilliwack and the ground was bare until at least 1500 when I left that area. Back along #1 and about 264th we were bumper to bumper at 20kmh. Lots of "casualties" off the highway in all states of disrepair. Sunday - had Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam, Port Moody, Burnaby and Surrey (Tynehead). All of these had a good dump, and the roads were not so good. Up Ravine Drive in PoMo, there was about a good 8" on the ground. Burnaby had 6" or so down near the Costco on Government. Back over to Tynehead, and the first place I got the truck "stuck" was down 161st in about 16" in a dead-end sloped cul-de-sac. Soon as I made the corner, I knew I was in for it, but there was no escape. Luckily I rocked the 5-ton out after about only 2 mins, was able to give the guy who wouldn't answer his phone (cuz I call ahead to all the customers to get an update and let them know an ETA) his leather sofa, loveseat and ottoman. Hey BUDDY - thanks for not answering the phone, shovelling your walkway OR saying thanks! BTW: do you think I got a single tip or even an offer of a cuppacoffee all day? Nyet ... "Hi, here's your $14000 worth of furniture" But the Pizza Pie Guy sure made good tips with his 1lb cardboard box of grease....

So of course just after I did our driveway, helped the neighbours with his and put the snowblower away, the plow comes and does the bottom of the driveways again. So I was dressed to go to a concert and had to get the snow blower out again. Our last leaf pickup hasn't happened yet and this morning the plows were clearing the gutters and drains to prevent flooding and they plowed all the leaves into the driveway . We are just not used to having snow this early the last couple of years in Ontario. I am sure last year while your overall weather was milder and I am sure you guys got more snow than we did.

One extreme to the other.... It's -1 outside, and we've got some serious freezing rain issues, on top of the 40cm of snow we recieved yesterday. The gutters on the house are iced over, so the snow melt is just running over the gutter. The willow tree in the backyard has ice all over the branches. Apparently there's reports of 18 inches of water in places of the Sea to Sky Highway. I won't be suprised to see Squamish mostly flooded by the end of the day. That's good news, because I'm in the flood plane.
