Fishing boat that graced $5 bill finds a home at B.C. Marine Heritage Centre
CanWest News Service Published: Monday, March 26, 2007
A 16-metre fishing boat that is the centrepiece of the new Maritime Heritage Centre in Campbell River, B.C., may look familiar to many Canadians, because they carried her image in their wallets for years. The table seiner with the unromantic name of BCP 45 was made famous after she was on the back of the Canadian $5 bill, pictured, circulated between 1973 and 1986. The image shows the vessel taking on salmon near Ripple Point in Seymour Narrows, north of Campbell River. The vessel became a focal point for thousands of visitors touring the docks at Expo 86 in Vancouver. She officially retired in 1996 and was donated to the B.C. Maritime Museum, where she awaited attention for six years.

That's great! I've never heard of the Maritime Heritage Centre in Campbell River... hopefully they'll start marketing themselves a little better with this new "centerpiece"!

Now here's something interesting, some places had 2 daylight savings times. Webcams are showing times an hour ahead on some of the mountains and some comps had their times changed. Now that is what I call an April Fools Joke.

You can bring it back to the negligence of the passenger for making the decision to drink alcohol and let it effect them. If you don't know how it effects you, don't risk it. Cruise lines should not be held accountable if the individual was under the influence of alcohol.

Yes, but unfortunately, if they serve it, they accept the risk and responsibility for the drinker. A bar takes on the same sort of liability for their patrons if they let them drive while under the influence.

www.informationclearinghouse.info/index.html one of my favourite news sites for those of you who love to see left wing at it's best. three articles today on what is going on behind the curtain of the bush administration and comparisons plus what we have to do to start a great awakening.

PoliticalRebel: It's good that you've found that alternative source of information and comment. With virtually all of our mainstream print and electronic media being controlled by right wing, pro-corporate forces, we really need to look elsewhere sometimes to get a balanced view.

well we have been having some media rambling lately just to get a good scoop. big media diverts away from politics and uses a disputed symbol without even carrying for clarification just to get a good headline and make someone want to sue for a frivolous purpose. Anyone getting tired of the uncomprehensiveness? Getting tired of issues not being dealt with? Tired of no accountability? Well I'm completely fed up and want something done. Trying to figure out why things happened is a waste of time until a situation is dealt with. The questions that need to be answered is how and what needs to be done to prevent it from happening again.
Sorry I feel a bit in a speaking out mood due to my displeasure with how life currently is and my anger of no one doing anything making life seem fine when there is legislation going on to trash freedom and put the word fascism on the billboard with Big Brother on it. Action has not been taken and the media is not helping at all. Nixon's watergate scandal was exposed by the media, why not expose the administration?

The current Canucks - Stars series might just be the worst playoff series I've ever seen.
I'm not much of a hockey fan any more because so many games have gotten defensive, negative, and seemingly designed by 'play not to lose' systems freaks. My fifteen year old daughter is the fan, and I've been watching this series out of curiosity.
This current Canucks team is exactly the kind of team Vancouver fans used to profess to hate. Trapping, clogging the neutral zone, mainly concerned with negating the talent of the other team with smothering defense. The Canucks are now the Minnesota Wild of three years ago who were so reviled by Vancouver fans and media. Their entire offensive strategy seems to be: dump it in, forecheck, and maybe someone will be able to throw the puck out into a scramble in front of the net. They look absolutely lost in the rare cases when the possibility of a rush presents itself. Dallas plays pretty much the same, and it has resulted in hockey that is virtually unwatchable for long stretches. The Canucks power play is so lame that they are literally more likely to score at even strength than with a man advantage. And never have I heard announcers talk more about line match-ups; this series has turned into an incredibly dreary chess match of coaches playing percentages- like baseball, where stats and probabilities take the place of real action.
Not that any of this matters too much to sports fans; after all, 'fan' is short for fanatic, and if the home team wins, justice has been served. I remember years ago when Tiger Williams played for the Leafs. He was reviled by Vancouver fans as a vicious cheap shot artist, untalented and thug like. Then he got traded to the Canucks... and suddenly, he was a 'character' guy, spirited and toughly competitive. He was Toronto's goon, but our honest, tough cop. Being a sports fan is a 'tribal' thing, not an exercise in enlightenment, and whatever methods the home team uses are fine as long as they win. How many Vancouver fans condemned Alexandre Burrows for his cowardly cheap shot at the end of Saturday's game- but think of the reaction if the slash had gone the other way.
No, this series, for the most part, has been awful, and if all NHL games were played the way these two teams are playing it, the league would be out of business in ten years. But if the home town heroes win, all will be wonderful in Canuck land.

I've seen some decent offence from the Canucks this season, but it hasn't been too consistent for the playoffs. In fact the team hasn't really shown up for the last 2 games except for the goalie. It's as if they don't care! I really don't think the Canucks can win game 7 tomorrow night.

hornbyguy is right, people really cheer for the jersey, not the player. There are a few exceptions... like Trevor Linden who has contributed to the community and been here for so long ... he would probably be cheered in Vancouver even if he was (he was:) on another team.

Personally I feel neither Vancouver or Dallas should advance. But I just don't get it why you totally shut down scoring for two games, Defense is all they have now. It's all about Luongo, Luongo, Luongo!! I swear, I'm losing my soul for this series, At first it looked positive but If the Canucks don't pull themself together tonight it's all Over for them just like the Flames, Preds, Wild, Pens, Isles, Lightnin, and Thrashers. CAN WE JUST ONCE MAKE IT TO THE SECOND ROUND!!

Well, I suppose that since I dumped on them yesterday, it's only fair to admit that tonight the Canucks did deserve to win, and that quite often, it actually was entertaining hockey. Over seven games, though, they outscored Dallas 13-12. I think that shlurping noise that you hear is the sound of twenty Ducks, licking their lips. Or licking their bills. Ducks don't have lips.

Bring on the Ducks! I think we'll see a more open game with higher scoring in this next series. Dallas and Vancouver played almost identical games and that resulted in lower scoring and a somewhat tedious game to watch at times. I think with different playing styles clashing, we'll see different hockey that is more entertaining and more open. I'm really looking forward to watching this series and I think the Canucks will be way more excited and hopefully more hungry.

The following bulletin has been endorsed for immediate release by all of the regional healthcare facilities and practioners.
All Vancouver Canucks fans and supporters are strongly urged to perform proper calesthenics and stretching ("warm up exercises") before watching or commenting on any and all hockey games involving the Vancouver Canucks.
This is in response to the numerous reported cases of sprained ankles, hyper-extended knees, severe shin brusing and lower back strains that have been reported over the last week to regional and local medical facilities including walk in clinics. Crutch and tensor bandage sales are also up, as are ice and gel packs, according to a local medical supply house.
This, apparently, is in response to numerous fans jumping ON and OFF the bandwagon.
If indeed one must alight or board the bandwagon, please make sure to do so only at the designated stops. If you feel that you must alight or board other than at the designated stops, please make sure that you limber up first, and for gods sakes, please check the terrain that you are about to jump to or from! Landing on uneven ground, or attempting to jump from a soft surface such as gravel may cause unneccessary injury.
Please help us by not clogging up our medical system with people who have injured themselves jumping on and off the bandwagon.
