looking at the reservation site shows a lineup of YAK-CHE-KIS-SAL followed by ELW-CHE-KIS-SAL (as of a week or two ago)

Ah. Yes, you're working with old news. The Hyak is no longer scheduled to appear in the islands this winter, as far as I know. Well, very limited data is available from WSF as their Vessel Maintenance chart hasn't been updated in more than 6 months (last day was July 27). Ugh! Well, I *will* admit I have the inside track...

In case it hasn't been announced already, according to Centerplate staff onboard the MV Wenatchee, they have claimed that the Express Bars will be open on the JMII's for about 4 hours in the AM and PM for sailings to/from Bainbridge on weekdays.

I was on the Wenatchee yesterday and checked the Express bar out. They look almost ready for service. Modern POS system is in place.
(No food service available on the Yakima from where I am posting this right now...)

In the 9+ years I commuted on the Bainbridge route, those Express Bars were never open. That was in the 2002-2011 time frame. I always wondered what was ever going to become of that space on the JMII's. I think it's great the new concessions vendor is going to utilize that space. I hope it works out for them. On a side note, has anyone tried the food on the ferries since Centerplate took over operations? I haven't yet.

I have tried the food options on the SJI vessels (Samish) and there were a wide variety of options, many of which I had never seen before. A French toast sandwich?

I've done the French toast sandwich. Excellent, but it needs syrup for dipping (I've talked to the manager about this but haven't been able to sway him on it yet). I've also tried all the hot dog and sausage options and find the bacon dog to be the best of the three, followed by the Hempler's 1/4 pound all-beef. The Men's Room Sausage (yes, we've already done all the jokes, thanks) didn't really leave me wanting another.

How ridiculously off-putting.

(Oh I know... cue the eye-rolling about political correctness.) With all the mentions of french toast sandwiches and various weiner/sausage concoctions... what are the healthy options on WSF?

The sausage is made with Men's Room beer, which is a tie-in to a radio show. I've never heard the show, so I can't offer an opinion on whether it has a frat boy component to it without judging the book by its cover. Healthy options... dunno, never looked. Um... seriously, I've seen some salads, but for some reason not regular ol' sandwiches in the San Juans. (Mukilteo-Clinton has them, don't know what the difference is.) I'm given to understand that they're coming. Perhaps they just don't sell that well? I also wouldn't be surprised if the menu was a little shorter in the winter up here. A lot of us are just happy to have a galley in the winter at all.

Well I will post this here. As a Canadian coming from LA (yes Los Angles and no not there for acting), Moved to Harbor Steps in Seattle 98101, 13th floor, yes 13.
I took the Bainbridge/Seattle ferry 3 to 5 days a week. Going over: coffee Starbucks and news paper NYT. Going home I bought a beer on the way home (Full Sail from Oregon). Loved my time in Seattle

hi guys.... just caught up from pg1. wow, there is quite a history/controversy about food services onboard WSF... dating only to 2006! just curious how the current food service operation compares to the previous one (http://ferryfood.com/)? from the comments on this board and from the info on that website, it sounds like they got really screwed over. what was the sentiment from regular patrons at the time? how successful was that campaign to save it? was it something really beloved? or was it more of indifference? how are those sentiments now? that concession operator went under b/c of this didnt they? i cant find any information or a website for them. oh and mens room sausage: man.... that is just absolutely priceless stuff

Great to see WSF running food services onboard again - although it is currently limited to 5 vessels so far (Anacortes #2/#3, Edmonds #1, Bremerton and Bainbridge on the Wenatchee). Just an FYI, despite the galley being open onboard the Yakima (A2) right now, the remainder of the upper deck will NOT be open.
