Another day... another breakdown.
Seattle/Bremerton - One Boat Service The M/V Walla Walla is having electrical problems and is out of service. This will cancel the 9:00am and 11:30am from Bremerton and the 10:15am and 12:45am from Seattle, updates will occur when conditions change.
I assume they mean to say pm for the 12:45 sailing, not am

I assume they mean to say pm for the 12:45 sailing, not amPeople should start learning how to use the 24hr clock instead of AM and PM! ;D There are many worldwide transportation systems that use the 24hr clock and publish these times on their timetables. The bulletin would read: Seattle/Bremerton - One Boat Service The M/V Walla Walla is having electrical problems and is out of service. This will cancel the 0900 and 1130 from Bremerton and the 1015 and 1245 from Seattle, updates will occur when conditions change.

They are so inconsistent...Sometimes, they use the 24 hour, sometimes they use the 12 hour.

I don't know if this is still true but for years WSF had the am/pm for 12 backwards.... I always got a chuckle out of that.

The M/V Rhododendron is having mechanical problems and is out of service at this time. Your alternate routes will be Vashon/Fauntleroy or Vashon/Southworth. Updates will occur when conditions change.
Egads! Here we go again!

Not yet. It's a matter of finding space... I'll keep an eye out down the street to see if/when she appears.

The drydock that was occupied by the Illahee and Klickitat (which are still down at Todd as of this evening) is now occupied by an ice breaker.

DC can pull her right out of the water and put her on land. I've seen them do this with a Steel Electric--kind of an interesting sight to see them completely high and dry.

My money's on Dakota Creek as well, for the aforementioned "SynchroLift"--a fascinating piece of machinery. A cement slab (with semi-buoyant qualities, I'm sure, for assistance in lifting) with a whole bunch of hoisting mechanisms that are vaguely reminiscent of seat belts, literally lifting the slab out of the water and up to dock level; then the cradle for the boat, which is on rails, scoots along onto the beach. I don't suspect they push it by hand, though.

Rhododendron is just arriving in Anacortes. Those of you who thought Dakota Creek are correct.

Just for the record
Point Defiance/Tahlequah Route - Update The 59 car Illahee will be replacing the 34 car Hiyu starting with the 5:30pm sailing from Pt. Defiance. The Illahee will stay on this route until the Rhododendron returns.
We will be operating on a normal weekday schedule.
That is now one less boat down. Will the Klickitat be coming back soon since the Ilahee is back online?

Otherwise either one route will be down a vessel or the Hiyu (currently the only spare boat available) returns to service again.

I believe WSF is going to have some angry commuters. If they have the Sealth running the 4:20, I think I may want to start taking the later sailings.
Seattle/Bremerton - Sealth Replacing Kaleetan, Saturday, June 23rd Beginnning Saturday, June 23rd, the 90-vehicle M/V Sealth is replacing the 144-vehicle M/V Kaleetan until further notice. Adequate passenger seating should be available on the M/V Sealth, however heavier commuter runs may require walk-ons to share seating with fellow passengers.
Seriously, why not put her down at F/V/S and we take the Issaquah? That would be a much easier arrangment, though I might just get a ride on her soon since she has not been on the run in ages.

She was on that route earlier this year when the Tacoma went out of service due to rudder flop. As for WSF having angry passengers, are you talking about the seating capacity or the car capacity?

I'd say both, my dad was not happy with the news and was whining about it since it is so small. Perhaps he will like the 1 pax deck 144 car vessels (aka the new ones). Still, the worst thing now that can happen is the Tacoma going out and we get another Issaquah with the Sealth, that is when we have a huge capacity shortage.

WSF has a bulliten that advises 45 minute advance arrival for the sailings of the Sealth. This is not even scratching the surface of peak summer traffic, and already weekend trips are overfilling. Many commuters will get a big shock in the morning when they try to get on the 7:20. Okay...it seems that they changed the notices. One of them now says that the Sealth holds 90 vehicles. BTW: the Sealth will be in the No. 1 position. From Bremerton: 04:50; 07:20; 10:15; 12:35; 16:15; 18:40; 21:00; 23:40 From Seattle: 06:00; 08:45; 11:25; 15:00; 17:30; 19:50; 22:30; 00:50

State Ferries An important part of the security plan for the ferry system is the use of Washington State Patrol explosive-detection canine teams to screen vehicles. The WSP reminds ferry customers that the dogs are trained to sniff out explosives – including fireworks. It means that ferry customers in vehicles carrying fireworks should anticipate and allow for screening time, and store fireworks where they are easily accessible for WSP personnel to examine. “Ferry customers are expected to obey laws regarding legal fireworks in Washington State,” says state patrol Sgt. Craig Johnson. “Legal fireworks include sparklers, ground spinners and Roman candles. Illegal or other explosive devices are not allowed on ferries and will be confiscated and disposed of.” The state patrol and the state fire marshal issue this warning: Retail fireworks stands open across the state June 28. In the last five years more than 4,500 fireworks-related emergencies were reported to the state Fire Marshal’s Office. Nearly 40 percent of injuries reported were to children 14 and under. Fireworks should be stored in a secured location out of sight and reach of children. “B[e] sure the fireworks you purchase are legal to own and discharge,” Sgt. Johnson says. “Know the dates and times fireworks are allowed in your community. Stay away from high-powered illegal explosive devices. Do not alter fireworks or make any type of homemade device.” www.mukilteobeacon.com/62607fireban.htmlFor more information visit the state patrol website at www.wsp.wa.gov/fireworks.
