I'd be surprised if they actually did more sailings... that thing is expensive to run. Still, I never know.

First time I've ever seen this before:
Monday, December 03, 2007 2:10PM Seattle / Bremerton Route Due to weather conditions and road closures, the 3pm from Bremerton to Seattle is sold out and the 4:15pm is almost full. Please use Bainbridge to Seattle as an alternate route.
**** It also seems I-5 is about to shut down through Chehalis due to flooding.

That is because highway 3 in gorst is shut down due to flooding, until that uncovers, we are sitting ducks without the ferry.

Qwack Qwack Dan. We had some roads flood yesterday with the rain here after the big dump of snow here. So basically you have no other way to go around Dan?

My guess is that he is swimming out to get his scuba gear. ;D I just heard on the news that Bremerton has had 13.5 inches of rain in the last 36 hours! (Nope, not a misprint. 34 cm of rain!) There is usually the option of "going around" the Sound, but the only land route off of the Kitsap Pennisula is out Hwy 3 toward Tacoma, and that is a low spot in there. So the only way across the Sound would be by ferry.

Well highway 3 just got reopened. Another good thing, I am on a hill above sea level by a couple hundred feet. I don't even need scuba gear.

Washington State Ferries announced today that the International sailing from Anacortes to Sidney (round trip) will be canceled on Tuesday, December 11, to allow the M/V Elwha to perform maintenance and sea trials.
The cancellation of this route will also impact the Friday Harbor bound vehicles on the 7:45 a.m. sailing from Anacortes to Orcas and Friday Harbor and the 1:40 p.m. sailing from Friday Harbor to Anacortes.
We are doing required maintenance on a rebuilt drive motor and need to do sea trials to ensure all is working appropriately. We apologize for the inconvenience. The Elwha will return to service for its 5:05 p.m. sailing from Anacortes on Tuesday, December 11.

Read "until further notice" as 12/22. The holidays ought to see the Kaleetan and the Kitsap at Bremerton.
Walla Walla goes to Edmonds, Puyallup to Winslow and the Tacoma and the Chelan are out for maintenance.

So the Puyallup is going in for maintenance eh? For a second I thought it was the Wally. The Puyallup is replacing the Tacoma (out for maintenance/inspection 12/24 - 1/4). The Puyallup has already gone through annual maintenance/inspection.

Note the magic word 'scheduled.' This one's been planned for a while; the inspections are just another challenge to go along the way.

Well there shouldn't be any capacity problems...lol I just wonder how many people are using her huge Saloon Deck cabin on that short run? Is her galley open? When she was on the Lofall - South Point run (about the same distance as the Tahlequah run) in 1980, her galley was open.

Not likely. As far as I know, there's never been any galley service on that route (none of the regularly assigned vessels had/have galleys except for the Olympic, and the galley on that vessel was never open after she was unretired in 1983/84).

One thing I can almost guarantee is that it's the best service south Vashon's ever seen... ;D
You'd be surprised about the traffic it might see, though. I know whenever a Steel-Electric would show up down south, traffic would take a day or two to migrate to the south end but I was told by regular crew that it would usually be pretty full even so.
Mind you, we're talking a difference of ten cars between the Rhody and the Q-boat.

Rhody, Illahee, Hiyu, Tillikum, um, um, ........? And the Quinault.Oops, this year... I thought we we keep track of all the boats that had been down there, in which case you'd have to add the Nisqually has been down there as well, along with the Olympic. That will teach me to post without having had coffee first...

I was on the Tillikum twice today and on both trips (8:50 AM from Tahlequah and 11:00 AM from Pt. Defiance) the side tunnels were completely empty. It seemed like she wasn't running at full speed either.

One thing for sure, the crews are getting a good workout! A long distance to walk from one end to the other on that 310-foot ferry on such a short run.
Originally built for the Seattle-Bainbridge Island run in 1959. Phased out the Edmonds-Port Townsend bridge detour in the spring of 1980 making this run from dock-to-dock in two hours. Now, she's on the short Tahlequah run. Who would have thunk it!
Her crews did get a good workout on Hood Canal. It's about the same distance as the Tahlequah run. She was there with the KULSHAN in 1980 and an "I-Class" in 1981. I took a trip to the canal on my boat in 1981 to watch the ferry action there and had my radio with me. Prior to every trip, one captain would plainly say on his radio "ARE YOU READY?". The captain on the other ferry would reply "READY!". They did this there so they could depart simultaneously and didn't foul each other's developed meeting pattern on this very short run.
