Welcome. May I ask what your avatar is? It looks to be a vessel concept designed in SketchUp, and it has piqued my curiosity. You are correct it is a concept designed in SketchUp. It is a small double ender about 40m in length and still very much a work in progress.

What would you like to name this vessel you designed in Sketchup? I know it seems a bit confusing, with that last post being the first thing you saw in this thread, but this is the Welcome to the Forum thread. We would like you to introduce yourself, tell us a little about yourself, and your interest in ferries. It's basically an introduction so we can get to know you a little better.

Oh. I don't want to say my name due to privacy/security reasons, and I love riding a ferry. The most common ferry run I ride is Edmonds-Kingston. Lately I have been riding ferries nearly every week. Additionally, my mother says when she goes home from work that the Fauntleroy ferry is best for her, so I've taken that one too.

Fauntleroy-Southworth, not Vashon.

That's relevant, because this is a forum where we conduct ourselves (usually) as adults, full (usually) of self-control and good judgement (well, not always). But young tweens often have problems interacting on places like this, because communication skills and other subtle items are often an issue for a young person who's mind and personality are still developing. - and that's my clinical comment for the day. Brain development of a tween is an interesting issue...and can be interesting (ok, frustrating) for adults.

Fauntleroy-Southworth, not Vashon. What might this post mean? What is it's purpose, other than to waste people's time? (if it's to edit a previous post, please use the edit key)

My "Fauntleroy-south worth" post was to make sure that people know I don't live on Vashon.

Hello, I'm 14 years old and know a lot about the ferries in Washington State (WSF). It is nice to come here and read everything you all have posted. I hope to enjoy it. Hi Jason: Will this new username version of yourself be any different than your old username "Estate2014" was? That account, plus two others created by you, were banned, because of multiple problems caused by your posts. I recall a problem with posting other people's photos and saying they were your own. And there were other posting problems too. Now's a good time to explain yourself about that Saturna photo fraud, and to let us know if/why things will be different this time. Thanks.

I'm not sure how I managed to miss this thread, but now that I have stumbled here I think that it would be a shame not to introduce myself - especially since I have been a member since November 2015. Thanks for finding us and participating on this forum. Your life experience of the interesting things of ships/planes/trains/cameras etc is much appreciated here, as is your humour. Thanks for all of this. Cheers !

It's wonderful to find a group of people that share a common interest in all things BC Ferrie-ish and can discuss them in an intelligent and articulate manner, and disagree in a civil and constructive manner. There is much to be learned here, and much to be enjoyed It's a great thing when people with similar non-typical interests connect. May I intrude with one personal reflective question? - Most of us can trace our ferry/train/plane interests all the way back to childhood, where somehow the childhood fascination was magnified by an unusually keen interest in the fine details of things, and then that interest grew as we grew older, instead of fading away to be replaced by other things. What were your triggers to start your interest in "things that move" ? And many of us have a common trait of fine-detail obsession, whether it is just a strong personality trait, or in some people it's a spot on the very wide Autism spectrum. - Has that fine-detail-obsession followed you around in life? This stuff is so much fun...

For me, my father was a map-nerd and always explained the various landmarks that we were driving by. When I was a kid, we'd do a road trip from Nanaimo to Penticton twice a year, to visit my grandparents. So my father explained the various things like 2nd-Narrows bridge collapse, Greater Vancouver garbage dump (near Brunette offramp), Hope Slide, Allison Pass, Princeton mines, Keremeos rail bridges, etc.
I paid attention with my sponge-brain, and this started me on a life of map-reading and landmark noting. I haven't stopped.

I just drove past the maintenance centre on Hwy 99. Didn't see any flags on the Nanaimo - Canadian flag is gone from her stern, and the BCF and Provincial flags are gone from her mast. I don't know if that means anything, but... I'm worried. I love the Nanny. If anything, it's nice to see the two Burnaby sisters together in dock... ...and "Welcome" here. Your train avatar makes me smile. Hopefully you find this to be a place where passion for ships meets passion for trains and planes and all other things that move. Cheers !

Not a new member, but a new name. The old "Flugel Horn" becomes "Low Light Mike."
I've done this as a personal social-media rebranding, updating the names on my Instagram and my Facebook photography page.
Why the change? "Flugel Horn" was a good name back when I normally had a musical instrument attached to my lips, and it was a good representation of my creative outlet. However things change, and I haven't touched my horn in over a year, and have shifted my creative attention away from music and onto photography. The type of photography that I enjoy most is low-light photography, both at dawn/dusk and also going hunting for Milky Way and Aurora Borealis in the middle of the night. A quick browse of my Instagram photos over the past 6 months bears this out.
So I was looking for a new nickname that would represent who I presently am, and a nickname that is catchy and also unused by others in the social media world. I had no desire to be "MikePhoto17".

Hello Everyone! My name is Victor, I live in Calgary and I have been lurking the forum for sometime now. I figured it's time to sign up and interact and hopefully meet fellow ferry fans in the future!
Back story on me, when I was young my family and I lived in Nanaimo and we would visit Calgary every summer which meant a roadtrip to and from, which also meant a ferry ride! Visiting grandma was awesome, but ferry rides were awesome too! My fondest memories were getting the kids meals on those paper ferries, they we're my favorite souvenirs.
Fast forward to today, I am a little older, maybe a little wiser with some expensive hobbies... but looking at/ being on a ferry brings out the child in me! My apologies for the long post!

Hello everyone. My name is Lucas, and I live in Tacoma WA.
I found this website about six months ago while browsing through other articles about ferries.
I enjoy reading about Washington state Ferries, as well as BC ferries, and just any ferries in general. Living in Washington, I've been surrounded by ferries my whole life, however it was only about two years ago that I really got interested in them and their history.
I'm not as knowledgeable on the subject as I'd like to be, but hopefully I will learn from everyone here.

Having grown up on Orcas Island, and having grandparents that lived in Anacortes, and now going up to Orcas once a month to visit my parents, the ferries you grew up around are the same ones I grew up with, and was always fascinated with.

Welcome, elwharust! I've always been fascinated with ferries, too, growing up and living on the west coast of Norway. I have traveled with ferries in different parts of the world, also in BC, but for the last 21 years, I have lived in Oslo, where the only ferriea to be seen are the giants to Denmark and Germany, so with a few exceptions when visiting relatives in other parts of the country, I only read about ferries in the news nowadays. In other threads, I have presented the history and development for Norwegian ferries, but not much has happened lately, so that explains my absence from this forum. Hope you will like it here, as a part of our global ferry family.
