I'm Glad you guys can take my lack of grammer and good spelling to heart. I work in a call center, and the thing that they emphasize, is dont worry about grammer or spelling, worry more about speed, as long as the next agent is able to deciper the code, there should be no problems. take a little humor in the fact that i'm able to push out some reselmblence of a somewhat normal sentance

Let me guess, does the call centre you work for belong to Shaw? And do your coordinates indicate you're on vacation near Hatzic Lake?

I guess we can let things slide... Fluge is the one who's overly picky about grammar, not me.

I guess we can let things slide... Fluge is the one who's overly picky about grammar, not me. Au contraire. When you compare the number of posts with bad grammar and abysmal spelling to the few which remark on bad grammar and abysmal spelling, I don't think anyone's being overly picky. As to the open houses, since people are probably going to be lining up and herded through the boat like cattle, and the thing isn't actually going to be going anywhere, I think I'll wait until it's actually in service.

In regards to grammar, please refer to Rule #5 in Rules and Information. Each moderator will have different standards; that's because we're all different people with different backgrounds. I'm not sure about all of us, but Flugel and I have both been through university and so maybe that's why we have a higher standard. We'll overlook the odd spelling mistake (I've been the author of some famous ones:) but consistent disregard for spelling and grammar will be not be looked on favourably. This isn't an MSN chatroom and if your writing resembles that of an MSN chatroom, I'm sorry to say that you probably won't be taken too seriously. And since we'd like this forum to have some credibility to visitors with an interest in ferries and with something more to contribute, it would be good if members took an extra few seconds to think about what they are saying and how they are saying it. We don't expect perfection, but remember, your contributions reflect on the forum and play a part in how influential it might become. Most of you provide quality contributions with very acceptable use of written English. Thank you!

Pardon the continued off-topic: For my moderating-style, I don't mind it when people "do the best that they can" in their forum writing. I appreciate the efforts and the desire to communicate. And on this type of regular-user forum, the regular members get to know each others' styles, and this helps us to understand each other. And we know that some members are easier to read than others; but it's the content that's important.....as long as we can understand what is being said. However, what peeves me is the "I couldn't be bothered" attitude, when it comes to readability and appearance of a post. And the " im" and " ill" are good examples of what lazy presentation is. You can point someone towards the spell-check button, but you can't make them push it; they need to do it themselves. Same with the pinkie-finger hitting the shift-key. Same with that key that's just to the left of the "enter" key. Those items are what makes written-english a communication-tool. When you type "ill", it makes it more difficult to determine what someone is trying to say. And when a lazy poster makes things more difficult, then I care less about what he/she has to say.....and the point of discussion is lost. And I echo what John H. said. This forum is about presentation; about presenting your ideas and thoughts. This type of forum is different from an MSN chatroom and is different from a call-centre job-ticket. When you present your ideas for discussion, you should want to present them as clearly as possible. Most people likely agree with that. One more thing: Lazy-posters likely don't have a hard time reading or understanding considerate-posters. But they don't understand the concept of reciprocation, or perhaps they just don't care. And the "I don't care" attitude definitely affects how I moderate this forum, re those posters. Thanks for tolerating this diversion. And thanks to all those who do care about how they communicate, because they want to be understood. Thanks! =========================== ps: I plan on attending the Nanaimo open-ship. I'm looking forward to the spectacle of it all, to see what type of presentation hoopla is done by BCFS. As for the ship itself, I'll get lots of opportunity to get to know her, as I travel on her in-service over the years......

How would you feel if I held up a sign saying "Ferries of British Columbia Forum - ferriesbc.proboards20.com" at the entrance to the Departure Bay foot passenger terminal to get all of us together for the Nanaimo open ship?

Sounds like a good idea! And perhaps at canada place sometime before the open house starts?

Someone else can do that for the Canada Place open ship, as I'm not authorized to go to Vancouver.

I think the Nanaimo open house is in the inner-harbour, just off of the northernmost Cameron-Island lowrise. ie. on the long-wharf that juts out, where the Navy ships dock during the marine-festival. I agree that a sign is a good idea, for those who aren't sure what a ferry-nerd might look like. I know that I'd need it for people like yourself, Kam, etc. (but we should be able to recognize 7-sisters....he will be the guy wearing new clothes - ie "new threads"). So yeah, if you want to hold the sign, it's a good idea, which will help some folks out.

Okay, now we know. Let me just check my charts to see where that is... Ah, there it is! How about we rendezvous at the Nanaimo Harbour ferry terminal, right near the NAW?

The Nanaimo public open house is set for February 2nd between 12:00 - 4:00 PM at the Assembly Wharf. ...everytime I hear the phrase "assembly wharf" for Nanaimo, I think of the Wellox rail-yards area, south of the SeaSpan berth. But I'm pretty sure that the current use of "assemble wharf" in Nanaimo is re that public-ship dock, accessed off of the tip of Cameron Island. Scott, I'm assuming that you've got the location & date/time info from the Company itself, from those 2 much-loved contacts who work for that Company?

You know it..! - Vancouver Open House - January 20th @ Canada Place, 12:00 - 5:00
- Victoria Open House - February 9th @ Ogden Pt., 12:00 - 5:00

Okay, that would mean we could meet on the Promenade, where the tallest building in Nanaimo (I don't know what it's called) is located... Wait a minute, that's within immediate walking distance of the Nanaimo Harbour ferry terminal!!!

Wait a minute, that's within immediate walking distance of the Nanaimo Harbour ferry terminal!!! That building would be "The Beacon". I remember seeing that one being built in the early 90's.... As for the "Assembly Warf", I'm thinking somewhere along the same lines as Flugel as well. But there's also two different long piers down further down the shoreline, towards that huge playground. Seems kind of odd to dock a huge ferry like that there?

So will she be docking at the Nanaimo Assembly Wharf proper for the Nanaimo open ship, or the Visiting Vessel Pier on the north side of The Beacon?

To get to it you have to take the overpass that goes over the rail yard off of Esplanade & Crace St.

Okay, then I will designate the Nanaimo Harbour ferry terminal as our common meeting place. I plan to arrive there between 10:30 and 11:00 PST. You just have to look for the guy holding the "Ferries of British Columbia Forum" sign. Is that okay?
