Here's a thread on the C-Renaissance open-house at Vancouver tomorrow, from another message board: www.discovervancouver.com/forum/tour-ferry-t237101.html**Warning: the above-noted "discovervancouver" forum normally has an intelligence & maturity level comparable to that of J.T. Cowan (that means that it's very stupid & immature). But the above-noted thread's topic may be relevant to you, so you might want to check it out.

Of course they'll allow cameras on the Open Ship. They allowed cameras on the first employees-only Open Ship at Departure Bay.

Well Folks, I was at Canada Place yesterday. I was wondering where was everybody.. suspicously no line ups, no media, no ferry geeks, nobody! So I headed downstairs and met up with some people, asked about it and I was told that it's actually on Sunday. I don't know why the life of me would I think it was yesterday? I couldn't tell if the Mars was still in the harbour. I was too busy trying to find my way to the walkway. By the way, where's the infamous Panama assault on our beloved CR? I couldn't find it, no evidence of repairs. It's so big, some people were thinking the CR was a cruise ship in dock. Tourists ugh. So, FYI. to find your way to the access. You have to walk down to the parkade and find the BC Ferries 3M covering the concrete piles and walk down and take a left turn through the doors. I don't know if they will be putting up directional signs, as there wasn't any yesterday.

We should have got the openhousers (close to hosers ) to meet at the point of Canada Place so we could have spied on them by webcam to make sure they were behaving themselves.

my source is the gobal bc sunday morning news Well that new bit of info (that Global-BC is the source) tells me all that I need to know about whether to believe the story or not. To clarify: not re believing Kyle, but re believing that the Bridge is only open on the Vancouver tour. The mainstream media has a poor track record re the fine-detail of ferry-related news items. So I don't trust this news.

That was fun!! The line up was huge but it was worth it. When your inside it was not packed at all. Lots of room to take pictures and take your time around the ferry. The engine room was amazing too. I'll upload my pictures in a bit.

Just got back. The group wondered off never came back and I ended up (along with another ferry fan) never meeting up with the group. I saw chris for a couple of minutes. I got over 500 photos. Need to download them first.

Got back a short time ago, the ship is great and you're in for a treat if you are going to the Nanaimo or Victoria open houses. The ship is very well finished and will be a great asset to the fleet. In the confusion of the crwods and some of our tardiness we ended up loosing track of some people but most of us ended up meeting up by the time we were on the ship. There was a lot of media presence and the lines to get aboard were very long for the whole period we were there - about 2 hours and a bit. BC Ferries even went as far as to provide enterainers in the line; not the best entertainers but nonetheless they were there.
Before boarding there was a tourism "expo" that consisted of a few communities showing off what they had to offer as a day or overnight trip. Was a good idea, I thought.
Once aboard the route of the tour was controlled by several BC Ferries employees and individuals I think were from Canada Place (wearing BCF name badges and coats as to fit in better). We got to see almost everything - state rooms, bridge, engine room, Coastal Cafe, Coastal Cafe Express, Sitka Lounge, SeaWest Lounge and upper deck. We were not afforded access to the helicopter pad, whoch would have made for a neat photograph.
Several of us were also interviewing by News 1130 and the Province Newspaper, so watch the Province tomorrow to see if any of us made it in.
Overall, the ship is marvelous and will be a tremendous asset to the fleet. The finish and quality is spectacular and we're lucky to have three of these ships coming on line.

Huge line up and it took me an hour to get into the CR. Took many pictures... but they didn't let anyone tour the engine room. The access to the Sun Deck was also blocked. They had those white chains across the doorways. I couldn't go down to the car decks either. I'm kind of miffed about that.

I thuroughly enjoyed the open house. The lines waiting to get aboard moved faster than I had thought, even though we were lined up out to the Street. It was hard to keep track of everyone, and to stay in a group, with there being thousands of people there. But Dane, Cadmunkey, Scott, Karl, and myself were able to stay in a group. I also met up with Ferrynutseattle, Mac Write, and cosmicray really briefly. But lost them in the crowds. Airchime Alan even managed to spot me on the sundeck of the Ferry, as he was standing on a higher up observation deck at Canada Place. Markus' photos were on a slideshow, on all the LCD screen TVs. I happened to overhear a crew member say that the Deck 5 Lounges with the LCD TVs will be able to show the hockey games, or whichever local team is on TV. There were some tripping hazards, but I usually pay a little more attention to where I'm walking on a Ferry, so I wouldn't trip on them. A couple of times I would joke around, and pretend to trip on the door ledges, after a crew member would say "Watch your step please". The Coastal Cafe and Seawest Lounge seemed a bit smaller than I had first thought. But there is so many other places to go, with lots of room, I don't think this will be an issue. There was definitely alot more media coverage than any open house I've been to. As Dane had said, we were interviewed by "The Province" Newspaper, and AM 1130 News. We let them know where we were from, and what this forum was all about. Speaking of the media, has anyone been watching the News? Every news station was down there, and I saw a camera from each one get a glimpse of us at some point.
I can't wait to go for a sailing on the Super C's. Markus and his team at FSG have done a superb job on this ship. Thank you.
Cheers.
I've got lots of video footage from todays open house, seeming I don't have a functioning digital camera anymore. So hopefully I'll get that video up and running in the next day or so.
