Has anyone been on an inaugural sailing before? Other than the attraction of being on the ferry's first sailing, do you "get" anything? Do they give out certificates on the first trip or the first day?
I'm not sure I'll be able to make the 3pm. More likely the 5pm if I can convince myself that I can't wait for a few more weeks;) There are two more coming soon if I miss this one, so I won't be too disappointed.

John ... Even if they don't give "certificates" we will have gained bragging rights for having been aboard for the very first sailing of the Coastal class vessels. I'll be able to tell my neighbours, family, and friends.
Said he, tongue firmly planted in cheek. ;D

maybe they will have bumper stickers "I rode the Coastal Renaissance on its first day of service" kind of like the bumper stickers when the coquihalla highway opened in the 80's "I Drove the Coquihalla on Opening Day"

What the heck would I do with a bumper sticker? (no, don't answer that ;D) I haven't had a car or truck for 10 years. Public transit in my area is such that one does not need one.

Well, to add to the ephemera collection, of course! You don't think that a true ferry geek would desecrate such an item by actually sticking it on a bumper, would you?

Lets do a double wamma and do TSA-Duke to be on the Queen of Esquilmats last possible day in service, get a couple Islanders to pick us up (if possible and we ask nicely) and then all head to DPB for the maiden voyage of Coastal Renaissance.

I was actually on the first public sailings of the Pacificat Explorer leaving Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay. I was also on the Queens of Cowichan and Coquitlam on thier first day back after thier Mid Life and I was on the Queen of Cowichan on her first day back after her major refurbishment back in 1996 or whenever it was that she and the Surrey switched. It was only on the Cowichan's first sailings from Departure Bay after the mid 1990's refitt that there was something one could take home as a keepsake and that was just a little card with the ships info on. Just explained what the ship had done during the refitt, but nothing really of true keepsakes. Sure on all of these sailings there was the usual hype and celebrations onboard with balloons etc but no real keepsakes. With this in mind I did ask Debbie Marshall during the Nanaimo Open house about such a sailing for the Renaissance but she did not give any hints to me.

Since no one wants to go on the Sunday, I may decide to go for a ride on the CR if she sails the 10:30am sailing on either the 6th or the 7th. I would love to join the group for the ride, but I have no transportation between Nanaimo and Parksville after 6:24pm on Saturdays.

No official word, but BCFS is still taking reservations for the 3 PM trip on Saturday March 8. I will be there for the first "official" sailing with passengers and vehicles. EDIT: I will be bringing my nephew along. I suggest that we meet by the office of the Chief Steward at the time of departure for both the trip from HSB and the return trip on the CR.

How about in the Sitka Lounge? I am not one to disagree but I think there may be several of us, and that's probably the natural indoor location to be; just worried about space in and around the Chief Stewards office unless I have it confused with something else, which I very well may.

I have one small issue to consider.
For those of us coming over from the Mainland on the Cowichans final 12:30pm sailing out of Horseshoe Bay....are we concerned about there being a huge crowd already lined up to go for a trip on the CR? I'm a little bit concerned that the sailing will be completely sold out by the time the Mainlanders are on the other side of the pond. But then again, I guess we could purchase our return ticket in the gift shop of the Cowichan on the way over just to be safe?

I will probably arrive at Departure Bay early then. I dont know how many people are actually gonna travel on the CR just to ride it other than us. But I could be there around 1:30pm or so if anyone wants to meet up then. Is anyone planning to go to Whytecliff Park after we get off the CR at Horseshoe Bay??? I might just do a roundtrip on the Coquitlam to Langale after as I will be hanging around Horseshoe Bay to wait for Scott to come on the 7pm then I will go back on the 9pm.

Hey guys,
I haven't joined all of you on a trip like this before, but I think the first sailing of the CR is definitely an event I don't want to miss. I plan to come over from Horseshoe Bay at whatever time the rest of the mainlanders would, then grab the CR back! Does it look like everyone's gonna take the 12:30pm Cowichan sailing from HSB?

I'm easy with that for the CR trip. Do others have any suggestions (other than my original) for the 12:30 from HSB, or do you just want to meet for the (return) trip on the CR?

Well if you want to, I might go on the 10:25 Queen of Esquimalt out of Tsawwassen then take the 3 pm out of Departure Bay.

Meet at the Departures area at Departure Bay instead of onboard. I just think that would be a better place to meet. But whatever works. I am gonna get there early cause parking is gonna be the peanuts as the long term lot is gonna be full it always on weekends now cause of the reduced capacity. So I am prepared to park in the short term lot and pay more, lol!

I don't think I'll be able to make it on any ferry trips this weekend, unfortunately. I guess I'll have to wait for the Inspiration or Celebration for my first inaugural trip. To tell you the truth, I'd rather go on the Queen of Esquimalt on her last day than the Coastal Renaissance on her first day (I take route 2 every couple months.. I'm sure I'll be on her a lot). But I don't think I'll get on the QoE either. Maybe some pics though:)

Unless they decide to put the CR into service earlier than expected I should be on the 10:30 am sailing on Sunday from Departure Bay.

Important Rumour Regarding CR In-Service Dateferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=newferries&action=display&thread=1167803153&page=116The post by "Iameatingacheeseburger" is me - because I am eating a cheeseburger. It is quite tasty - a BC Burger to be specific. Anyways, word on the BCFS street is that the CR is ready to sail tomorrow all going well - and if not tomorrow then Friday. Moreover there is a larger crew call all day Saturday so speculation that CR may be in service all day. THESE ARE RUMOURS BUT FROM A RELIABLE, SENIOR SOURCE Scott - any info?
