Thank you for the heads up, Mirrlees. I find it funny how someone as yourself, someone who isn't a moderator and is simply a devoted ferry fan, is the one to advertise such a trip. Luckily, for myself atleast, I was invited by a friend (not that you aren't, Mirrlees), but it makes me wonder where this forum is going if it's so exclusive as to not even mention such a trip previously by those who organized it. Happy trails!

Happy trails! Since when are trips the purview of only moderators. If I am visiting BC and want to open a trip up for others I certainly don't expect a moderator to "advertise" it.

Nice try Sherlock, but Robbie Mirrlees is the trip idea originator; which it ok with me. Why so title-obsessive? ...but it makes me wonder where this forum is going if it's so exclusive as to not even mention such a trip previously by those who organized it. Rob Mirrlees is the organizer/originator; do your homework. In any case, thanks for the laugh. ;D

Kyle, you have nothing to complain about because, by your own admission, you were apparently on the Queen of Tsawwassen once before when we were having a group trip and just never bothered to participate, but not because you haldn't been invited.

I'm sorry Kyle, but you have stirred this pot too far. Myself and the rest of the staff are trying to get this resolved and this topic back to a trip planning topic. You had no business going in on this issue
You are banned for a week.

How do we get in on these group trips? Do we rent a van or something so we can roll together?

How do we get in on these group trips? Do we rent a van or something so we can roll together? Kyle Fosset guest-pout post #2. ShadowLurker must have his own vehicle....... =========================== Just so everyone knows, member "Kyle Fosset" is on a short-term ban from this forum. This was necessary because of some persistent, belligerent posting which wouldn't stop, even when he was asked to. Since that ban, he's continued with obvious "take a shot" guest-posts such as the one above, and also registered at least 2 new usernames. One of those names was the very creative "big pimpin'". - So he obviously knows that he's been asked to take a break, but he continues to pester. So if you see some guest-posts or new-member (with curious username) posts that seem to be taking-shots at the group-trip issue or other issues that Kyle's mind finds amusing, you will know who this is. =============== Kyle, if you are really serious about an issue that your like to comment on, please do so in a constructive and clear manner, next week. Your style of 1-line shots and condescending tone doesn't work very well here. So if you have something that you'd really like to say about this whole issue, then please consider how you will be saying it, and what you'd like people's reactions to be. If the issue is that important to you, then I'm sure you'd want your message to be received and understood and appreciated. You might even have to reveal something about yourself in order to make people understand why the issue is important to you. That's different from just taking anonymous or vague shots. However if you're just interested in stirring the pot and being unproductive, then find another playground please. Thanks. (pardon the off-topic, but this comment needed to be addressed).

Are people still thinking of doing this outing, considering that the weather forecast isn't great for Sunday?
Would the following Sunday be a possibility?
If so, I would join for part of the trip, as I want to do something else as well, namely....
(driving, of course)
ar. Long Harbour 2:10 drive to Vesuvius Bay, leave 3:00 ar. Crofton 3:20 drive to Mill Bay, leave 5:20 ar. Brentwood Bay 5:45 drive to Swartz Bay, leave 7:00 ar. Tsawwassen 8:35.

I can't make it on Sunday , I have an important work-related dinner party to go to. I am glad I visited the Queen of Tsawwassen on Wednesday.

Well, it looks like I'm the first to report on the Sunday trip. Karl met me at Swartz Bay we bought our tickets and headed for Berth2 to board the 8am Queen of Saanich. The sailing was very quiet with only a couple rows of cars on the MCD not even taking up one third of the deck. We had some breakfast and wondered around for awhile; getting a chuckle over the warnings on the electrical outlets at the work/study cubicles, Warning due to power surge issues with this vessel plug your equipment in at your peril. I went and asked the Chief Steward if Karl and I could maybe get a bridge tour and was met with a flat NO! Donella, we need you on all these outings! As we started entering Active Pass, we were at the bow when the horn sounded and believe it-or not it made a great echo in the Pass very unusual!! We arrived at Tsawwassen a 9:35am, walked off and waited for Scott to arrive on TransLink. Karl and I wanted to watch the Tsawwassen come in so, we bought our tickets and were told we were boarding by the skywalk instead of the car deck. Scott met up with us in the Berth 2 waiting room and we got off a few shots of her arriving. After boarding, we headed for the sundeck and compared stories of how our mornings began. We were getting hungry for lunch and went down to the cafeteria for some Old-School ferry food! As we sailed up Long Harbour I brought out a photo album pf pictures that I haven't digitized yet. We went through all the stops and walked off at Long Harbour where we just stayed around the outside seating of the waiting room until we could buy our return tickets. In the morning sailing when we arrived at Mayne Island we docked at the old dock where we found a tree with a root ball was jammed in the dock! When we arrived back in the afternoon nothing had been done to remove it. We launched our Zodiac with two of our deckhands where they tied ropes to it and towed it out of the berth. We then were able to dock and winched up the Zodiac onboard again. I was able to get a good recording of the Tsawwassen's horn and the echo in Active Pass. s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/Mirrlees/?action=view¤t=MVI_0514.flvHere's the second blast. s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/Mirrlees/?action=view¤t=MVI_0518.flvAnd here's one of those Mirrlees Twins. s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/Mirrlees/?action=view¤t=MVI_0476.flvWhen we arrived at Galiano there must have been around 200 footies waiting up the trestle to board! Once again, a jam packed sailing. We were exiled to the bow as the sundeck was very crowded. The SOBC was gaining on us but, arrived at the same time we did. There were so many footies that we had to leave via the car deck and when we got to the departures building looked back and they were still streaming off like a line of ants! Karl and I bought our tickets for the 7 and Scott for the 8:15pm to Duke Point. Scott waited with us at Berth 5 until the footie line-up had eased off a bit where, Karl and I boarded the SOBC for another overcrowded sailing on route 1 an uneventful and uncomfortable crossing. We arrived back at Swartz Bay parted company and headed home a great day on a great ship!!

Great pics! Thanks. Funny but I remember the echo in Active Pass lots of times. Maybe it depends on when the ferry actually sounds the horn.

Hey guys, thanks for reposting the trip report. I know I said I was supposed to be there but I went and did something even more fanatical (or stupid, whichever one you think fits better.) I actually went back to Galiano on my own because I wanted to get shots of the Tsawwassen in the pass while I still could. If you guys were on the bow going through active pass then I got a picture of you, of course you have to zoom way in to see it since I don't have telephoto on my little old camera. I was planning to meet up with you guys going back through to Tsawwassen, but I was threatened with being stranded on Galiano, so I took the long way home courtesy of the Cumberland and the SOVI. One interesting moment came at Otter Bay when they had to deploy the platform deck and some passengers had stayed in their vehicle and for some reason got locked in and couldn't get out of it. Transport regs state that no passengers are allowed on the platform either inside or out of a vehicle while it is being raised or lowered. It was almost funny because there were at least 4 crew with 1, maybe even 2 even inside the vehicle, who had lunged in through the open windows, and whatever security system the car had wouldn't allow the doors to unlock so they had to call the driver back . What made me mad though was going through active pass on the way back... We passed the SOBC of course and I had put my camera in the car because I was tired, hungry, I wanted to have supper and I wasn't expecting any more interesting photos. Anyway, my memory card was full as well. But then after the SOBC, the Tsawwassen came around the point, almost close enough to touch, in perfect golden sunset lighting and doing a perfect drift around the corner running with the tide. She looks so small and compact from on the Spirits, but she also looked so warm and inviting, and somehow set with purpose and determination. So here's to myself for not being camera smart and missing a golden photo that likely will never be possible again , especially on the very subject of my lonely pilgrimage. And here's to the smaller than usual vessel, who gets overbooked and has no carspace: this is the only time I've ever been mad at the sturdy old (ahem) rust-bucket, so I came up with a less than flattering nick-name for her to get even and started calling her the Chew-on-it-wassen, playing on the name which is often mispronounced anyway. It seems it was an interesting day all around, but it sure was a lonely one for me.
