Has anyone heard about Royal Caribbean's new ship that is being launched in 2009. The "Oasis of the Seas" , she is a 220 000 ton ship. Amazing! You can see it on Royal Caribbean's web site.

She does look like an interesting ship. I don't think I would want to be on it with 5400 people on it though, it would be a little too big. here is the website for the ship. www.oasisoftheseas.com/

For the first time this massive build up of the cruise industry is hearing rumblings of order cancelations. With the current backlog for ships at most of the yards this may not have an immediate effect on the yards themselves. Everyone is watching bookings with the fuel surcharges that may become necessary. The only way to attract the fewer cruise passengers that may be able to pay the increased costs of cruising will be twofold. One strategy would be to lower prices and run on a lower profit which is dicey in the long term. Another would be to buy ships (maybe fewer though) that break new ground, have something no other ships have, and/or new programs to attract the increasingly jaded public. This ship is obviously fits in with the latter.

Royal Caribbean has always done that with any new class of ship, they have set the bar one step higher ahead of the rest of the industry. This is a big step but from what I heard, if it rains, you are SOL.

Eh, not bad... personally I'd rather sail in a ship than a mall, but that's me...
