A Bosun (or more correctly spelled, Bo's'n, short for boatswain) is the leading seaman, head of the unlicensed deck department. First among equals, if you will. At WSF he or she is generally the person who organizes the work projects dispatched to him or her by the mate.

Woohoo, I am a Quartermaster...sweet! I need to make a new uniform.... Doug's an "able bodied seaman"? I could make so many puns about that, but I will bite my tongue.

It took you a while to notice that ... But don't push your luck, or I might promote doug to an officer so you have to take orders from him.

Stuff like that makes the managment nervous and gets people turfed. I think you need to go to the brig (we're borrowing one from Irish ferries), cause we can't have this kind of distraction taking place while at the helm.

I believe the engineering crew can find a rusty void space to lock Donella in for a few hours. Might set her straight. And we could use an able bodied seamen to clean the fuel tanks out.
Cheers,

Me thinks throwing anyone in a jail cell would make the "problem" worse in this situation.... may as well tie em' up to the mast and thow a party!

As Doug's co-worker I can't help but feel somewhat obligated to take this one to Kevin Falcon...

Ok I have taken the first steps to designing the Queen of Richmond. This is a very preliminary drawing that deals with the task of shape and form of the vessel. Any and all input will be considered in the design of the ship. Her current stats: -450' long -80' wide -No bow doors or side loading -8 lanes of cars -Single center casing -"V" class bridge and stern -Sydney class deck configuration including raises forward lounge. -Single car deck configuration Cheers,

re design drawings for MV Queen of Richmond:
remember to include some flaws and problem ares. She wasn't nicknamed the "Lulu-Lemon" for nothing, you know..... ;D

Please don't include any pics or depictions of Her Highness Lulu either because she is scarrrrrry. I heard the pic of the Queen keeps getting removed and a portrait of Lulu is there. Poor kiddies gonna have nightmares.

Without rippling any waters, could I be the "Load Master" in charge of tightening all the cars and trucks up during loading?

O.k. Hardy: I added you on as a deck-hand. Make sure you load those cars properly.

Thanks. As long as you give me capable "deck-hands" on the terminal side so that I can get the mix of vehicles in the right order on both of my decks, I will get the maximum stuffed on to each and every sailing. Please have the terminal staff sort out my "specials" (handicapped, bus loads), as well as my trailer towing personal vehicles from my commercials. Under full-load conditions, my loading pattern may take a little longer, but I will guarantee you that I'll get every possible vehicle aboard!

Update of crew manifest: I added Ferrytraveller on as a quartermaster, and transferred Orcasnative to the position of watch-keeping mate.
And, I think Cadmunkey got a bit carried away with his plans for our fable queen... is this gonna look anything like a Spaulding ship...? Cause she sort of has to fit in the same class as her other seven sisters, doesn't she...?

I'm a little late off the mark here as I've just gotten back recently from a few-month hiatus, but I've got to say, Cadmunkey, I really like the design so-far. It seems like a cross between a classic Spaulding, my personal favorite, and a similar Great Lakes ferry. Nicely done.

Looking back at it now... The plans say no bow doors or side loading... I think you just created a NorAd.
