Here's my video of a walk through part of the Johnston Canyon trail in Banff National Park, in September 2014.
The crib-work in portions of the trail jutting-out over the canyon reminds me of something the Royal Engineers might have done on the Cariboo Wagon Road (later destroyed by rail line construction).

I recall reading about there being a partial solar eclipse happening today but I thought, well I live in Kitimat (on the 'real' Wett Coast) and the sun is very scarce at this time of year. I also keep thinking that one of these days I need to travel someplace to where a total eclipse will happen. I need to put that on 'my bucket list', as they say. So this afternoon I see a Facebook post from WCFF member Steve Rosenow showing his view of the eclipse from the Seattle area. So I went to check out the situation from here, much to the north west of Seattle, & I managed to get a few half decent photos one of which is presented below...Partial solar eclipse viewed through a thin cloud layer from Kitimat, BC - 23 October 2014 © WCK-JST by Wett Coast, on Flickr

I was doing some filming at Nanaimo boat basin this evening, and I will probably do some more tomorrow morning. The project idea is to do a dusk timelapse followed by a dawn timelapse, with same location and angles. So Saturday night & Sunday morning will do for that. Here's a still from Saturday evening (actually late afternoon)

Some more assortments of dusk/dawn timelaspe.
For this one, I filmed at the same location and angle for consecutive days: - end of daylight on day-1 - start of daylight on day-2
And the fog rolling-in on day-2 is a nice effect.

I love filming sunsets. The colour show is fleeting, but well worth the effort to witness it.
Here's a timelapse of a Nanaimo sunset, from March 14, 2015

For anyone interested, my Father scored a bridge tour of the MS Prinsendam. Direct link to the page is here, the gallery is at the bottom of the page. Given how much fun I had trying to post photos directly to the Taku thread, I'll be content with just a link.

It is interesting to take a look at what HAL crews think is an ancient bridge. Looks reasonably modern to me.

I visited Butchart Gardens on Thursday. The places oozes excellence. For me, the best part was the twilight photo opportunities, because the gardens are lit by hundreds of small lamps. Here's my best from that day, at the top of Jennie's sunken garden. Butchart Gardens sunken garden by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr I was at this spot for 3.5 hours, filming video for a timelapse. I enjoyed the constant movement of visitors around me, and the audible gasps of wonderment as people came around the corner and saw the sunken garden for the first time.

The only time I've been there at night was last Christmas for the Christmas lights, but it was spectacular. While I was filming my timelapse above the sunken garden, it was pretty quiet when I started at 6:45pm. But soon, many groups of people started coming through. It wasn't a crowd-rush for the concert (it wasn't big-name music that night) and it wasn't a fireworks night. We learned that the large groups of late arrivals were from Celebrity Solstice. 'Solstice was late in arriving at Ogden Point at the end of her Seattle-Skagway-Seattle cruise, and so the groups of cruisers were late in arriving at Butchart. I chatted with 'Solstice cruisers from Connecticut, Colorado and Texas.

Its ferry time in Village Bay! I love that evening rush-hour transfer time at V-Bay. I've never done the "drive-off / drive-around / drive-on" dance myself, but I always enjoy watching it from on land or from on one of the ships. We were on Mayne, earlier this week. We spent time sitting under the "Royal Tree" on the roadside corner next to Springwater Hotel - a nice place to view the Active Pass action.
