I've posted this everywhere else today (hyperbole), so here it is here too: This is star trails above the old 1870s stone "Butter Church" building, near Cowichan Bay BC. The stone building is an iconic Cowichan area landmark, on the Cowichan Tribes' land. This shot is a 15.5 minute single shot, designed to capture the star movement, with Polaris in the middle. . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr This was at 2:20am on May 21, 2017.

Today's 81% eclipse in Calgary at 11:31am - apparently I was two minutes short of the maximum. Didn't have a solar filter, so thank goodness for electronic shutters - 1/16,000s, f/22. Attachments:

Although I can see that it might be annoying because we're all posting a similar shot from the same angle. As a wise forum elder once said, "sometimes it's better not to take that shot."

I'm seeing that photobucket prompt, but no photo... That's the photo that I kept seeing from others. So I got my own. (I've got weird humour) There you go again Mr Horn, teasing us types who are clueless about computers and tech stuff. I spent about twenty minutes trying to determine if maybe photobucket was going to stop my ability to see everyone else's photos unless I paid them $300.

Just having some fun with alluding to all those photobucket non-photos that we are seeing on the forum these days, mostly in member signatures. Even non-photos can be admired. Maybe.

Some ferry-art, using the Mayne Queen's navigation lights for a 6-minute light trail as she heads down Navy Channel towards Lyall Harbour. I was on the wharf at Hope Bay, on North Pender Island. This was in September 2017. I had the camera in bulb-mode, and when she came into view I started the exposure, and when she disappeared from my frame I ended it. . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

A collection of time lapse videos I have shot for work. I was first inspired by the work of Low Light Mike, then found an online course that taught me the basics of shooting and post production. One of the segments includes the Coastal Celebation in drydock.

I have one I made for a client. it is of the voyage from Horseshoe Bay to Snug Cove. Unfortunately, I started it too late, It would have been cool to have it start while in dock. Maybe, next time. The sky is active, in this view from the Galiano Island bluffs: - f/2.8 at ISO-1250 for 20 seconds, and a focal length of 24mm. 11:26pm on July 2, 2018 Helen Point on Mayne Island is showing its white light for the west entrance to Active Pass. The Milky Way is majestic on the left side of the sky, and Jupiter is the bright planet on the right side. The light pollution of the Saanich Peninsula and Greater Victoria is in the middle on the horizon. . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr The Galiano Island Bluffs Park is a great photography & viewpoint location. Three comments: 1) This is your first time to the bluffs? Really? 2) Amazing shot, thanks for sharing. 3) I just got back from a few nights in the Sierra Nevada backcountry. Didn't stay up late enough to watch the stars (twilight lasted longer than my remaining energy) but did notice one bright planet visible to the west. Presumably you and I were both looking at Jupiter, from different vantage points a thousand miles apart.

1) This is your first time to the bluffs? Really? Yeah, I take my time getting to places.... I've been to Galiano 3 times before, twice as family getaways at Bodega Resort, and one overnight trip in the cemetery (for the noble purpose of Active Pass ferry photography). But I decided a few months ago that I should do an overnight trip and visit the Bluffs. The evening light was super for ferry photography, and the night sky photography was stellar. I liked that I could stay at the bluffs as long as I wanted, which ended up being 2:30am after I had done all that I could do for photography. After that, I wanted to photograph the "tree in the middle of the road" but I found that it had been chopped-down sometime in the last 2 years. So I did an hour of photography at Sturdies Bay wharf, and then put my car into the ferry lineup for the morning.
