Here’s an interesting vessel swap, the Tokitae and Samish swapped routes. The Samish currently can't operate at full speed. They swapped the two as her sailing at reduced speed won't impact the schedule at Mukilteo like it has been in the San Juans.

Perhaps it's just my perception, but it seems like Samish has had more issues than her sisterships.

Why is Samish unable to operate at maximum speed? Could this be a long term swap of is it temporary until there’s enough boats that function so Samish can get repaired?

I have been able to obtain a new layup schedule, for your viewing pleasure. All standard layup schedule disclaimers apply, however this should shed some light onto the vessel movements that WSF is planning in the near-ish term. Layup Schedule Fiscal 2018-19 (Updated 11/21)

Layup Schedule Fiscal 2018-19 (Updated 11/21)Thanks for posting. I do miss the maintenance schedules WSF used to publish. Even if they weren't always accurate, they gave you a general idea of what was happening with the fleet, so this is nice to see. There's a lot happening on that chart, but a couple of items I took note of are Kittitas moving to F-V-S in February, and Sealth taking over for inter-island in January. It seems like these are more-or-less permanent assignments for both vessels. That will push Tillikum into reserve status, which makes sense. It also looks like Suquamish will get a couple of brief stints at Anacortes in the spring (subject to change, of course).

Looks like the Tillikum is running in the #2 position (replacing the Yakima) and the Salish is running the inter-island duties. The San Juan lineup currently looks like this: 1. Hyak 2. Tillikum 3. Samish 4. Salish

Samish 4. Salish I hope this is a short-lived situation. Tillikum doesn't have the capacity required for mainline duty, nor the speed. I expect she will be pretty far behind schedule by the end of the day. We're going to Orcas next weekend, so hopefully a Super will be back in the #2 slot by then.

The reservation site shows this being in place for the rest of the week. The Elwha is scheduled to replace the Tillikum on 2/23

This weekend: Sealth stays in service. Chelan goes to Bremerton. Chimacum goes to Bainbridge.
First time an Olympic has ended up on Bainbridge?

9 boats now out of service based upon Vessel Watch. Hopefully that changes before tomorrow morning. Just saw Kennewick pulling into Eagle Harbor. Port Townsend is without a boat.

Salish is running there, Just doesn't have Vessel Watch turned on. Tillikum is the interisland boat, not scheduled to be in service til tomorrow morning, also without Vessel Watch on. OOS are Yakima, Walla Walla, Issaquah, Kitsap, Wenatchee, Kennewick, and Tokitae. Any one is enough to restore full service. (FVS 3 is the missing position. I wonder which one can go active first. The game of musical ferries continues...)

Caught Chimacum at Bainbridge on Saturday night, need to ride it at Edmonds to be my first 4-route Olympic-class vessel (Mukilteo, Edmonds, BI, Brem)

The Kitsap (listed as being held in port awaiting inspection) is currently in drydock and is not scheduled to be back for at least another 2 weeks.

You notice that WSF has made every opportunity to publicize their fleet renewal plan? You can tell the legislature is in session.

Not exactly a profound observation, but note that all four Super Class ferries are in service now despite all the out-of-service vessels, three of them at Anacortes, and the Kaleetan at Bremerton.
Every time I see that, I wonder if it's the last time I'll see it.

So over the course of the weekend: Kaleetan, Puyallup, Chimacum were pulled from service Tokitae returned to service at Mukilteo, bumping Suquamish down to Kingston where it bumped the Chimacum. Walla Walla returned to service running at Bainbridge, bumping Puyallup. Two boat service on the Triangle, with Sealth going to Bremerton bumping the Kaleetan.
(Pre-existing oddity: Samish is on Bremerton, with Hyak as the #3 in the San Juans)
