You are right about that. Nicola @ Prince Rupert - 5 April 2007 The Nicola's dock is located just to the north of the BCF dock on the Rupert water front. Between the two is CN Rail's Aquatrain barge slip. Graham, aka Tsawwassen Terminal, got some nice shots of the Nicola and other ferries when he was up this way a couple of weeks ago. The Nicola appears to be a sister to the Nimpkish? On which BCF routes has it operated on in the past?

Well I was up flying around Nanaimo today and planned to see the CR at Departure Bay. I got a pleasant surpise to see what I thought was the MV Nimpkish at Departure Bay berth 1 but taking a closer look and seeing there was no BC Ferries colors I saw it was the MV Nicola that runs from Prince Rupert to I have no idea where up there.

Karl, get with the program. Are you new around here, or something? There's a thread for the Nicola, with lots of info. Thanks for those great photos of a really unusual occurrence. Looks like the ' Renaissance has got a cute little pet ferry all of it's own!

Well, I think that explains why CR is in birth 2 now.

Interesting seeing the Nicola at Departure Bay. And Next to the CR which is like 30X her Size. I wonder why she's down south? Must time for her annual refit.

I would imagine she is waiting to go to Nanaimo Shipyards, I will keep you posted if I see her there.

Your right, Jim... She is currently waiting to get into a Shipyard either here in Nanaimo or over on the Mainland - whichever has room for her first...

Hey! That's not the Coastal Inspiration!
Hehe, the Nicola looks like a toy compared to the CR. Thanks for the photos, Karl.

Nicola looks like something you would buy for your kid to play with in the bathtub.

The Provisioning door (similar to the ones on the Spirits) is open on the Coastal Renaissance, and is recieving stores from the truck on Berth 1.

Ah yes, one of the four "N" class vessels. N Class... except for the A and the G... The Nimpkish, Nicola, Garibaldi II and A.J. Savoie / RJ Breadner. So, if all of them were N's that would make the Naribaldi and the N.A.J Savoie / RJ Breadner... if that makes sense. It's interesting to see the two ships together, but seriously, which one really looks more like a ship... the floating angular box, or the nice little ship with curvilinear hull lines and an actual discernible bridge and deck layout. Cool photos... if I was gonna buy a ferry, it would be one of these little ones, or the Tenaka, just because they're the best for size and scale.

FYI: THE MV Nicola is currently at the Nanaimo Shipyards as of 2:45pm March 7. I was down at the visiting pier and could see her at the end of the Nanaimo Shipyard Jetty.

The first two C's were the Coquitlam & Cowichan; hence the 'C' class designation.

Right but the first C-Class built was the Coquitlam.
According to the Canadian Transportation Agency the registration date for the Coquitlam was June 11, 1976 and the Cowichan was registered November 4, 1976.

Ok, not many of these "Q" class vessels left (The Original Name of the first class was the Quadra Queen) in the fleet. ;D
The Nicola was the first vessel of the class (as Quadra Queen) and then the A.J. Savoie. Making it either the "A" class, or "Q" class, but I would call it the N class after the most common "N" named vessels
