I need to know if Swartz Bay has a U-Turn route, for vehicles exiting the terminal (just off a ferry), who need to go back into the terminal to take a 2nd ship on a different route.
I've seen the U-Turn route at Tsawwassen (which is well marked), so I was wondering if the U-Turn route at Swartz is just as logical and just as well-signed.
Please enlighten me. Thanks !
Last time I did this at Swartz was in 2005, and there was a sneaky break between concrete dividers that you could use, very close to the toll booths.
I've studied Google Earth, and can't see any U-Turn routes. Let me know where it is, in relation to the toll-booths and in relation to the overpass that's just south of the toll booths.
Cheers!

Thanks PK for that advice. I hadn't looked far enough South to see Wain (and see Wain run....). ;D

I recall from just a week ago that the U-turn route at SWB is fairly obvious and is well signed. Presumably people with cars doing 'through fares' from the mainland to the Gulf Islands via route one use this U-turn route routinely to get back to the terminal.

I used the Wain Road U-turn route at the end of our Mayne Island camping trip in 2007. I had Coastal Skier in the passenger seat with me, and we had just disembarked from the Queen of Cumberland, who was running late with us arriving at Swartz Bay at 6:25pm. I had a reservation for the 7:00pm to Tsawwassen. By 6:32pm, I had turned around and was arriving at the ticket booth, and was told my Reservation was no longer valid, and I just lost $15. Needless to say, I was spitting fire and nails, while I watched Coastal Skier leave Swartz Bay on the SOVI, and I also got to watch the Queen of Saanich come and go for an 8:00pm, which I also missed due to a two sailing wait. Finally made it on to the 9:00pm on the Lower car deck of the SOBC. Not a fun moment.
So my advice to Mr. Horn, if you plan to do this U-turn route to make it on to a Route 1 destined vessel within an hour of your arrival on the Gulf Islands boat on a Sunday afternoon, then a reservation on Route 1 is almost like a betting game...
(Then again, I'm well known for bad luck everywhere. So who knows, maybe you'll be alot luckier than I was...)
