First time I rode the ferries was in 1967. It was just around the time of the Centennial train. I can't tell you what ferry it was because after all because I was just 4 1/2. We sailed one way through Active Pass and one way through Horseshoe Bay. One ferry definitely had lino or some other kind of floor because a kid was racing his toy truck all over the place, and I distinctly remember my mother saying that someone was going to step on the truck and fall. I can remember watching waiting for it to happen . One ferry we were on had the raised windows in the front so was either the Sidney or Tswwassen. There is a slide of it kicking around somewhere in my parents basement. It was before Christmas because my cousins came over to my house for that.

I was about 5 when Dad took me on the McLure Ferry, north of Kamloops. Needless to say, I was hooked.

I've been riding ferries my whole life, and I can't remember a time when I didn't love them.

My first ferry trip was when I was 4. It was actually my first boat trip larger than someones runabout/ski boat in the Okanagan or lakes in Alberta. The first trip was on a stretched but unlifted Spaulding - from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. I don't recall which ferry but I know I always took note of when we were on the Burnaby because that is where we lived. We traveled multiple times per year back and forth. I liked going to the Island via Horseshoe Bay and returning the long way via Tswwassen. We always timed it to eat on the ferry it seems and the upper dining room was, as I have said before, a real treat to a young kid.

Rode ferries as a kid but 'ferrygeek' - to pay the tuition and buy the beer began in 1965, and have never looked back.

The first time I remember taking a ferry was in 1988, when I went to Hope to visit my paternal grandmother. The first time I was aboard, I was fascinated that such a large structure could move so quickly and leave behind so many "soap bubbles", as I called the ferry's wash back then, and it still fascinates me to this day.

I have been facinated for as long as I can remember.
If it wasn't for BC Ferries, I would not even be here. My parents met while working the same shift aboard the Queen of Surrey back in 1985.

I haver been a geek of sorts since early in my childhood. I rode the original Sidney and V classes when the were as new as the Coast Boats are today. I recall well my first ride in 1969 on the newly stretched Queen of Esquimalt and me thinking just how spiffy it was, dogwood carpets, fancy restaurant and all... My geekism intensified with the loss of the QotN in 2006.

I became a ferry geek in 2003 when I first rode on the Queen of Nanaimo, the first BC Ferry I remember riding on. My favorite ferry in the fleet ;D

I have been facinated for as long as I can remember. If it wasn't for BC Ferries, I would not even be here. My parents met while working the same shift aboard the Queen of Surrey back in 1985. 9 months later, Scott was born in April 1986. Sorry, I just HAD to mention that fun filled fact of the day . Just buggin' ya. I've been a Ferrygeek for as long as I can remember. I guess it all started when I decided to start collecting items from the ferries when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Of course, back then, I'd refer myself to the Chief Steward, as a "Ferry Fanatic", when asking for a bridge tour.

For me, I think it took off around the time I was in Grade 2 or 3. I don't remember exactly how, but I think they just grew on me since the Ferries were one of the only ways out of Powell River and it's no doubt in my mind that they came up a lot in my life because of it.

Like Orcasnative ferries have been a part of my whole life--literally. My mother had to hop on the Kaleetan to get to deliver me. Since Dad worked in Seattle (and first started commuting from Bremerton on the Chippewa) whenever we'd go over to see him working in the computer room at the now long defunct Fredrick & Nelson at Christmastime to see the store decorations, it always involved the ferries. That's where I developed such fondness for the Wally and Spokane, and still have vivid memories of the orange interiors and the hot chocolate in that galley which looked like it was right out of the Brady Bunch's kitchen. ;D

My mom told me I went aboard the brand new Walla Walla as a baby that first summer it was up in the San Juans. Obviously I don't remember that. The next time I would ride either of the Jumbos was in the early 90's, when I was in college. When I was a kid, my favourite ferry was Kaleetan. At times, she was the biggest boat in the San Juans, if Elwha or Hyak weren't assigned as one of her running mates, but I always liked Kaleetan the best.

My family has a house on the island that we travel to every summer. I guess I first remember traveling on the C's from HSB to DPB. My second memory would be a few years later on the fast cats. The only that was impressive to an eight year old was the automatic toilets.

The only that was impressive to an eight year old was the automatic toilets. That's as opposed to the automatic toilets on a Spirit, which will keep flushing continually while you're still sitting on them.
