And finally, just as a non-entry bonus from out of area, here's a pic of the tiny cable ferry Daniel Mathney V holding down its route on the Wheatland Ferry back in August. www.trainweb.org/gensets/features/Daniel Mathney V_0576.jpg [/img] Enjoy! Jody
Praising the quality of other people's entries is very modest, when yours are no slouch. Very nice, crisp night photos from rather eye catching lines of sight. But I like the smallest competitor the best. There just seems to be so much detail packed into that one scene, you can just tell that this little ferry has lots of interesting stories to tell.

Mill Bay - You're right about your assessment of the Weatland Ferry. It's the newest ferry of the three across the Willamette in Oregon, but from what I've been told by its operators it's already had a very interesting career. The boat that it replaced, the Daniel Mathney IV, is still working in Oregon as a dive platform. I haven't been able to figure out who owns it yet.
There's two other boats on the Willamette between Portland and Albany. One of them, the Buena Vista, is due to be replaced probably next year. It's well over 50 years old now. The other is relatively new as well. Maybe when I get the chance, I'll start an Oregon Ferries thread. I spent a few months down there earlier this year, and really had a ball. Learned a lot and developed a real appreciation for the operations.
Anyhow, many thanks for your kind comments. I'm looking forward to talking to you all in the future.
