I've always wondered where old dishes on any passenger-oriented service like ferries and railroad dinning cars ends up when they overhaul the service; I'm wondering in the case of BC Ferries if they are in the Port of Victoria

BTW my friend who is Chief Cook on rt2 says the Butter Chicken might be making a comeback. If it makes a comeback, hopefully it will be after they consult with an actual Indo Canadian cook on how to make it. Completely bogus on their first attempt.

BC Ferries Coastal Cafes have a new breakfast item - a breakfast sandwich done by WhiteSpot, the "Sunny Start".
It costs you approx $5.50 ($2 cheaper than the better Smart-Start sandwich) and is a horrible breakfast sandwich:
Basically a WhiteSpot burger bun, Triple-O sauce, fried egg, ham and some orange cheese. Not the healthiest way to start the day.
I tried it, and I'll gladly pay the extra $2 for the Smartie next time.

My arteries are nice and firm.

Ohh glad to see that calorie inducer made it to BC Ferries. It has been a regular contributor to the Triple O's menu for years - used to start my mornings before Psych 100 with it, and then promptly fall asleep because of what I had subjected my body too.

That's it??? I thought the last time she was on the route you could get the Bacon Cheeseburger and I also got the breakfast bunwich in the morning too last year when I was on the Wack on the Comox run. That really isent a very exciting menu if that is all it is this year!

That's not all there is, Karl. That's the featured items board. They have a bunch more stuff too. I might have posted a photo after my trip last december of the full menu. Check for it if you want.

BC Ferries really need to get rid of that stupid Smart Start Breakfast Sandwich and bring back the Breakfast Bunwich! That would be so much better!

I disagree, both with your point and your frequent use of the word "stupid". . But I do like how you cleverly used the word "stupid" and "smart" right next to each other; very well placed Karl. I think the smartie sandwich is far healthier than the Breakfast Bunwich was, and certainly healthier than the White-Spot breakfast sandwich. Smartie has it's place on the menu.

I honestly like the "smartie" too. BCF needs to have SOME reasonably healthy options on their menu or they're going to lose revenue. Not everybody wants a big greasy breakfast. That said, I DO like the bunwich as well.

On my trip over last week, I broke with my long standing tradition of the 'all aboard' breakfast, and tried the 'smart start' sandwich with the little fruit cup, and a grapefruit beverage. I was hungry again in two hours, but at least I felt virtuous. Next time... I think it's back to a full serving of fat, salt, and dead pig. Not to mention those potato pucks that Scott has so alluringly photographed. I think those things must be the human equivalent of the hard chews that people buy for their dogs to scrape plaque off their teeth...

Bacon Cheeseburger aboard the Queen of Chilliwack. Thanks for posting this pic. The way I see it, it`s not to show that high-class fare is available on board our ships, but rather to show how much better (and fresh) the classic burger and fries served on a real ceramic plate look (and taste) compared to the White Spot version served and wrapped in paper on our southern routes (excluding rt. 9). I experienced this myself on the Chilliwack earlier this week but was too self-conscious to to take a pic. Note to self: I shoudn`t care what other people think about me in terms of ferry enthusiasm.

Side note question... I was on the Queen of Coquitlam tonight, and couldn't help but notice that the Dill Pickles are $0.99 now. Don't they come with the burgers anymore? I didn't recieve one with my burger tonight. The Classic Bacon Cheeseburger gets tiresome after a while. Trust me

Kahloke offered up some opportunities for mischief with his 'all aboard' theme for the month's ferry photo, but I decided to refrain from intruding on the more serious entries, and put this here. I think this is one of the more attractive portrayals of the 'all aboard' breakfast that I've seen; I liked the way the morning sun was glinting off the sausages and bacon, although my humble little point-and-shoot didn't do the light justice. I thought the pepper was a nice counterpoint to the sunny ambience of the freshly decanted scrambled egg mixture. I have to admit to some embarrassment in taking this shot... I wondered what other diners might be thinking. ("Look, Martha, that old bald weirdo's taking a picture of his breakfast.") One of the wonderful side benefits of the 'all aboard' breakfast is that seven hours later, you're still full- you can pass on lunch. And your wimpy arteries get some much needed toughening up. One must suffer for one's art.

One of the wonderful side benefits of the 'all aboard' breakfast is that seven hours later, you're still full- you can pass on lunch. And your wimpy arteries get some much needed toughening up. One must suffer for one's art. Arteries toughening up? Hardly. Arteries are supposed to be flexibly hollow. That stuff will stiffen the casing and also congeal cholesterol and saturated fats within, causing reduced flow and higher fluid pressure. Could blow a hose with blockage caused by that. Is that pepper on there or soot from the exhaust stack? Sheesus. and those snausages. coated with all that saturated grease. Probably enough there to keep the valve lifters well oiled. and all that salt? No brown bread, just white floured basic bread. A little jam? Laden with sucrose and other naturally occuring sugars plus additives. Bacon looks a little dry, The hash browns? Probably vegetable oil and a little salt. The orange is good though. All that and a Coke. Eggs are probably good, but a little dry. But eggs have cholesterol in them. Adding to the fats and cholesterol in the snausages. and what's the finishing part? A Nanaimo Bar? Good gawd, all that heavy sugar and fat? On top of all of all that junk? 30 minutes later, could a person actually move ? ;D You call it that, I call it yum.
