Here are some photos of lighthouses from my trip to the Oregon Coast. (I returned home today at around 14:30, give or take) Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, now decommissioned. Photo taken from Cannon Beach: Yaquinna Head Lighthouse:The stairs up, from below: The waterfront side of the light. Taken from the top of the hill: Zoomed in, also from up the hill. Heceta Head Lighthouse:The beautiful lightkeepers house, now a bed & breakfast: The lighthouse, hiding behind the trees: Taken from a lookout just south on the 101: Zoomed-in. A very distant shot, from the Sea Lion Caves: Umpqua River Lighthouse:Looking up it's tall face. Umpqua River Lighthouse is identical in design to Heceta, right down to the fact that the seventh stair from the bottom on both lighthouses is the only one that's broken in both. The lighthouse keeper's house has lost it's Victorian Facade, and is now a museum. Looking up the stairs. Inside Umpqua's First-Order Fresnel lens. This is one of only two lighthouses anywhere in which you can go inside the lens. A close-up of the individual lens panels. The exterior of the lens. The lens' builders plaque. I'll leave you off with a back-lit photo of Umpqua River Lighthouse. More photos from my trip coming tomorrow, including... - Oregon Coast Bridges
- Oregon Dunes
- Puget Island to Westport ferry pictures (my first ever American ferry ride!)
- Various other pictures from my trip, including Haystack Rock, Sea Lion Caves, etc, etc, etc....

:)I have never been into lighthouses that much, but mr horn's shot of lennard Island light is quite striking! It kind of puts me to mind of one of those spirtual lighthouse songs that my wife and other gospel singers do on occasion! Good work mate! :)mrdot.

A day-time picture of the Lennard Island lighthouse, near Tofino. - the house in the foreground is on Frank Island, which is the island that you can walk to at low-tide, from south Chesterman beach.

:)I don't know if it's coincidence but one of BC's best old time photographers was a Alberni pioneer Lennard Frank, who took some of the best pics. of those years! those two place names fit like a glove. unfortunatly Frank was a German Jew who was run out of town in the infamy of the first war's predjuces., but set up shop in downtown Vancouver, in the 1920's, taking many fine Empress ships among others. mrdot.

Pardon the off-topic, but here's a photo of a ship's light. - that's an Anker light, still with the original shipping-paper inside the glass. This is in the office of Lady Rose Marine Services in Port Alberni.

When you are feet from shore; can you not connect the light house to the shore? Nootka Island lighthouse, as seen on 8/28/2010: Isn't it funny how lighthouses are always built on exposed rocky outcroppings, instead of inside a sheltered area. You'd think that they were intended to be for the benefit of ships out at sea, instead of just a nice place to visit from ashore. ;D Nootka Island's lighthouse is built on a rocky outcropping which shelters part of the cove, and that's tied to the rest of the island by a thin isthmus of beach. The view from the top of the cable-car-way, of the cove and the grassy area by the church.

The keeper's house at Fisgard Lighthouse has a ship model of the Estevan. I asked the Fisgard on-site volunteer about it, and he said that this ship is what Estevan Point was named for. - he said that many of the lighthouses were named for ships.

Fisgard Lighthouse in Colwood, at the entrance to Esquimalt Harbour. - built in 1860 - named for HMS Fisgard. - It's still an operational, un-manned lighthouse, and the site is now part of the controlled grounds (and very cheap admission price) for Fort Rodd Hill national historic site. Entrance Island is right off of Gabriola Island's Orlebar Point. - I was at that point on 12/30/2011. With Route-30's Coastal Renaissance: Later, coming the other way ...and even later with Route-2's Queen of Coquitlam

My family worked at the Lucy Island Lightstation for a year or two in either '64, '65, or '66, before it was automated. Two families lived on the island; one worked dayshifts and one worked nightshifts. Fascinating! My great uncle, Frank Glinn (erroneously recorded as "Frank Glynn" in some places, including Lights of the Inside Passage) was 25 years a keeper, the last 10 on Lucy Island until 1963. He passed away later that year 12 miles way, on the mainland in Prince Rupert. This was the year I was born, in England: my grandfather was his brother, Tom Glinn. Frank was also born in England in 1900, into a naval / coastguarding family, but "ran away" some time around 1920 - possibly going AWOL during the first world war - who knows? So I never got to meet Frank and his wife, Eleanor Pearis (nee Tite), but I do have a letter from them to my parents congratulating them on my birth, as well as copies of his birth and death certificates. I also have been sent a copy from Prince Rupert, in recent years of a photo of my parents! I have also become a keen birder, and am interested to find Frank cited in the academic ornithological paper The Auk, published by one of the Canadian Universities, as a source into research on the breeding range of the Rhinocerous Auklet, which is now, of course, well documented as a Lucy Island resident. I have also been sent, by a kind resident of Prince Rupert, a photo of his grave, which no blood relative has yet visited; and by another lighthouse authority, Jim Derham, some photos of Frank which originated by the - wait for it - niece of Eleanor's second husband: she remarried after Frannk's death, out of necessity, but died "of a broken heart" within 18 months of Frank. Or so the story goes! Anyway, here's a photo of Eleanor, taken by Frank, on Lucy ... I have many more photos but haven't worked out how to post them better on these boards. If anyone is really interested let me know and I'll persist in learning how to post them! Also, if anyone has any more references, info or photos, please do get in touch. Next year I will become 50, and I plan to make a trip to visit Lucy and Frank's grave in Prince Rupert ... Attachments:

Hello sglinn, Welcome to the forum! Yes, I am most interested in former keepers at Lucy Island. My Brother-in-Law and Sister were stationed there from '82-'87. They were the last keepers as Lucy was de-staffed and automated at that time.
The houses were burned down and all the buildings around the tower were removed also.
