My guess would be the two wooden platforms just across the exit lanes from the holding areas. Yup, that's where I took my pics too. It's interesting that those two platforms resemble wooden pickleforks jutting out into the water, in the way that they're situated. LOL that's what I also thought. I took photos of the Walla Walla and of the Yakima when it paid a visit to that run last summer. That was my first reaction. LOL.

I took a ride on the Spokane today. I barely made the 11:10 out of Edmonds and I think that I was the last walk on to get on the boat. The mix of colors is sure unique and it makes the ferry more exiting and alive than other boats. I would like the Spokane's interior a whole lot more if they didn't use that teal-blue color on the armrests of the seats and the chair legs. In the second photo I quoted, that shade of gray on the armrests and chair legs looks a whole lot better!

A little hazy yesterday, but a great day for a trip across the Sound. Spokane from the Puyallup on the 7PM sailing out of Kingston.

Let me get this straight, is the Spokane permanently assigned to the Edmonds-Kingston run, or can it go on other routes too?

I believe Spokane has been at Edmonds/Kingston ever since Tacoma went into service. It was at Seattle/Bainbridge once when Tacoma stalled out and was down for a few days (before Wenatchee was completed). S The Spokane did not leave Bainbridge until the Wenatchee was completed. When the Tacoma went on line in... oh, November? 1997, the Walla Walla went to Kingston. When the Tacoma went out for her annual inspection the next spring, the Walla Walla went back to Winslow for a week; the Yakima, having gone to the San Juans, was unavailable to come to Kingston as the Kaleetan was out for her MLU. The result was three-boat service at Kingston... Hyak in the #1 slot, Tillikum in the #2 slot, and I had the pleasure of being assigned to the Klickitat for the afternoon shift as #3 boat. All this, of course, before the Wenatchee was on the run.

POST 1500!!
Some more of the Spokane, from yesterday wroking Ed-Ki as usual. First, her from the Walla Walla, en-route to Edmonds. One of the things I love most about the Jumbos (both MKI and MKII, but it's more pronounced on the MKI) is the bow wave. Since the foam is visible from the pickleforks when they're sailing at a good speed, you can just stand at the end of the pickleforks watching it endlessly with the wind in your hair that cools you down from the heat. That just makes me nostalgic of those summer Bremerton crossings. Yes, when I end up on a Jumbo on the Bremerton run that's what I do for more than half of the sailing. MV Spokane en-route to Edmonds - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Then, a shot of the two Jumbos passing with a sailboat in the foreground. I like to see how there's virtually no difference between the two boats, as well as how they show their Spaulding origins. MV Walla Walla en-route to Edmonds and MV Spokane en-route to Kingston - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr The wake and nets, as seen from the fisheye. The distortion isn't that pronounced in this one. You can also get a glipse at what could be seen of the Olympics behind. Wake, MV Spokane - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr The end of the car deck. I like the unusual angle and how it makes a heart-like shape if you were to pull them close together: Car deck, MV Spokane - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Our trip was also part of the Spaulding-related festivities for his 101st birthday, later this month. So here's the builder's plaque with fisheye effect: Builder's Plaque, MV Spokane - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr As we walked off the boat at Edmonds: MV Spokane at Edmonds - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr And departing Edmonds a bit late, due to train delays (again...). The Olympics are a little bit visible, but nearly not completely out: MV Spokane outbound from Edmonds - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr

From 2007, a couple of photos of the Spokane. Don't remember which ferry we were on or run other than I am guessing Kingston-Edmonds. Feel free to correct me.

S Not sure when the Spokane got her LEDs, but it's a shipyard conversion job and all the boats in the fleet are getting converted over as time and budget permits.

Does anybody known about the red tape on this ferry? They've been using it quite a lot lately in the middle seating at end one....

Took a trip down Sound on Tuesday and crossed E-K as usual. There's a great place to shoot the ferry sailing into Edmonds where (when it is clear, anyway) you can get the ferry with Mount Rainier looming above it. It was crystal clear on the way home, but I kind of like it better when Rainier is peeking out through the clouds, or has one hanging around the summit like it did on Tuesday.

My brother has a GoPro and the audio quality is not that bad. I use a used GoPro Hero 2 to film my ferryboat videos, and edit them on VideoPad. As to why the sound is so sketchy, I don't know. If you're interested, I just got a walkthrough of the Walla walla on my channel, and more ferry videos are soon to come.

I don't often use the filter features on my camera, but one of them is kind of fun--the "Make photo look like a model." This is the Spokane back in June. And here's a shot not using that filter taken on 28 August.

Took my first ride in forever on the Spokane back a couple weeks ago. I took her from Edmonds to Kingston and her sister back.
