Does anyone know what happened to the Spokane. Washington State Ferries said that she will be out until further notice leaving the Tokitae to take on the evening rush hour alone, which resulted in a four hour wait in Edmonds and a hour wait at Kingston. From the Kitsap Sun: Kingston ferry down to 1 boat Friday Josh Farley KINGSTON — A propulsion problem forced the ferry Spokane out of service and reduced the Kingston-Edmonds route to one boat service Friday night, according to Washington State Ferries. Ferries spokeswoman Susan Harris-Huether said crews from the system’s Eagle Harbor maintenance facility were working on the issue Friday evening, but she could not promise the vessel would return to service tonight. The first sailing canceled was at 4:45 p.m. The remaining vessel, the Tokitae, is already a smaller capacity vessel than normally runs on the route. Harris-Huether encouraged drivers to take alternate routes, including the Bainrbridge Island-Seattle run. Backups at the Edmonds terminal were estimated at four hours; at Kingston they were two hours. “We’re working as hard as we can to get it resolved,” she said. ____ They had her repaired late last night and back in service this AM.

Question for our WSF friends, why does the car deck ramp bend when not floating on the ship? That is completely unseen up here in BC.

Question for our WSF friends, why does the car deck ramp bend when not floating on the ship? That is completely unseen up here in BC. The ramp is hinged such that there is a triangle shaped piece attached to the apron, and two more triangles attached to the first piece. It would seem this allows the ramp to flex as the ship rocks during windy weather or is loaded/unloaded unevenly.

Bonus points awarded to Mr. Snowy Ferries for using the word "inclined" when discussing a ramp issue.

Now I wonder where the current single person chairs on the jumbos and superjumbos came from and where they go after their service... my uncle has two of them and I would like to have one!

From a 1971 DOT publication Washington Highways courtesy of the Byrne Collection that I've been scanning, extolling the virtues of the newly designed interiors of the Spokane and Walla Walla, which I do believe hadn't been named at the time this went out. The were wrong on just about every point when it came to the interior of these boats, which was pretty much universally despised the moment they went into service.

Anyone know what Spokane will be doing when she goes into drydock within the upcoming weeks?

Anyone know what Spokane will be doing when she goes into drydock within the upcoming weeks? Not sure. She will be going around Feb 22 and wont be back at Edmonds until mid-April (around the 18th). The Puyallup will be covering that whole time so those at Edmonds/Kingston who are fans of the JMII will be happy to have her back, since she hasn't been at Edmonds full-time in a while.

Oh, good! Finally she's going to get a proper paint job instead of that piecemeal patchwork they did to her the last time.

Oh, good! Finally she's going to get a proper paint job instead of that piecemeal patchwork they did to her the last time. Yes, only I do really like those old No Smoking signs. I was disappointed when they disappeared from the Kitsap and Chelan. I'll be sure to get up to Edmonds before Spokane leaves.

What Spokane could really use is new nameboards.

Whoa, the Spokane is at Bremerton. Never thought I'd see that. S Yeah, they probably decided it was easier than bringing the Wally down from Edmonds. That freed up the Kaleetan to go to San Juans after the Yakima's incident last week. Still, weird to see the Spokane with the Cathlamet!

From 2007, a couple of photos of the Spokane. Don't remember which ferry we were on or run other than I am guessing Kingston-Edmonds. Feel free to correct me. Well, even if you don't remember, you know if you see the Spokane, its going to be at Edmonds. That's her permanently assigned route aside from unexpected shifts.
