Here are my October 27, 2010 photos of MV Cathlamet, while she was going from Clinton to Mukilteo. - she is part of the Citrissy class and was built in 1981. - she is a 130-car ship, and there is only one passenger deck, with no sundecks. Good ship for a short-route. - passengers who want to go outside can use the smoke-room at either end of the ship, which also leads to the pickle-forks. ------------------- Arriving at Clinton's berth #2 in the morning, after the rush-hour: Car deck view from the stern. View from one gallery deck (fixed side upper deck) across to the other. - what is the WSF term for this type of side upper-deck? Passenger-deck seating has a few styles: The open-air room at the end, with the cage-stairs leading to the bridge area above. - I like the wood benches.

Good photos - keep 'em coming. I'm glad you had a nice trip to our side of the border. It's been a long time since I have been on Cathlamet. I think the last time I rode that vessel was before she got her cabin upgrade. I seem to always end up on Kittitas whenever I happen to be taking the Mukilteo-Clinton route, and I admit, it's been awhile since I have done that. Those vessels used to be rated at 130 cars, but now WSF lists them as carrying only 124 cars. But, as has been said on another thread, that number varies depending on the mix of vehicles in the traffic load. And, to answer your question above, gallery deck works just as well as anything else I have heard to describe the upper car deck wings.

Awesome photos! I think I was on the Cathlamet before her upgrade too! I dont remember her looking like that! That is the one thing that sucks about the Issaqua class is there is no sundeck which is why I think the Chelan shouldent be on the International Route as she dosent have alot of outside deck space! That's why I really like the Super Class!

Karl - The Issaquah class came with the most awful, impossible to clean, bland and generally unpleasant interiors to ever grace WSF. Even the disco themed interiors on the Walla Walla and Spokane were better.
Starting about 2000, each Issaquah class ship had their interiors redone. Each one has been done in a similar layout, but different color scheme. Usually, the colors are bright and striking. Sealth received great tile work on her flooring. There's pictures on Evergreen Fleet's website.
Sealth was the last Issaquah class ship to recieve a new interior ... I sailed on her in early 2006 just before she went in for rehab and it was amazing how dreary and awful it was.

The Issaquah's interior was actually redone earlier than that--I'd guess in 1996 or so, as a test bed for the materials that would be used on the Tacoma. I worked on her in 1997 or 1998 and the interior had already been redone.
(The materials didn't hold up, and it took a lot of us complaining for a long time to get the state to quit using them.)

And, Issaquah's cabin was re-done again this year, so technically, she has the newest cabin in that class of vessels now.

I rode the Kitsap years ago from Fauntleroy to Southworth and I thought her interior was way better than the Cathlamet's interior as I was on her too that same trip and thought it was pretty plain!

Since I'm moving alphabetically, first up is the Cathlamet, which I've only had the opportunity to see a few times. Still, on a sunny day in August of last year, I was fortunate enough to capture her coming into Mukilteo. Enjoy! Jody

3. Say WA? - Who doesn't like the nice sunny clear days especially when we've had such few this Spring? The MV Cathlamet at Mukilteo with Mount Baker in the background. 5. Mukilteo Lighthouse Black & White - Another from my favorite perch. 6. Picture Window - Riding the ferry is even more fun than watching from shore and the fam and I enjoy walking aboard and playing tourist. 7. Ultra Contrast - One of those sunless days where the first time you saw the sun was when it broke below the clouds during sunset. The colors were unreal that evening and I was glad I waited around.

I have tried several times to take the Cathlamet, as it is the only WSF boat I have not been on. Every time, I get the Kittitas. Provided she does not break down or go for maintenance or something, I will get my chance on Monday, as the Clinton dock needs to borrow me from Keystone. IMG_4691 by zargoman, on Flickr

Well... I've already checked her off my list. I hopped aboard after my shift at the Keystone dock last week for a little trip across the sound during sea trials. But, that doesn't count as being in-service.

Cathlamet was OOS yesterday due to a fire pump leak according to the Record. www.pnwlocalnews.com/whidbey/swr/news/126843603.htmlAug 05 2011 The M/V Cathlamet has returned to service on the Clinton-Mukilteo route, and the ferry run is back to two-boat service. The route was limited to one vessel until 10 a.m. Friday morning so emergency repairs could be completed, and inspected, on a leaky fire pump.

There was actually rain last night on my way home. 22:30 from Clinton. Not too many people onboard. I used the floor for a "stable" platform and it turned out to be somewhat interesting. The shelter decks at the ends of the cabin on the Cathlamet have a strange lighting type. It's very bluish looking. That's an interesting way of illuminating those solaria on the ends of the Cathlamet. It sure does highlight the bluish-white paint that WSF uses for their vessels!
Similar lighting is on the solaria of the Issaquah.

Similar lighting is on the solaria of the Issaquah. One of the engineers told me a while back that they were slowly switching over to LED lights on the boats, which may account for the kicking up the bluish tinge to the paint.
