About a year ago I was at Vashon and saw the Kitsap and Chelan alongside the Cathlamet. The two other sisters both looked VERY bright and shiny in comparison to the Cathlamet. I can't imagine another year of wear has made her paint any newer

Sounds like Cathlamet will be back tomorrow, but will have a unique look for a while:
(Link to WSF twitter post here, in case you're not seeing it)
Lack of time for proper maintenance rears its head again. Sign of the times I guess.

It should be noted, that I was the LAST car to board this sailing, but I got aboard anyways. Bless the lights on SR160 on the way over from Bremerton (and a particular angry glare at the Chimacum for being late), but I got a fun little chance to check out the Cathlamet rockin' her new look again last week on the 4:45p sailing from Southworth. She'll be out again starting this Sunday night for ONE whole month so I am glad I got to check it out, I would totally recommend it.

They should prob give the issaquah class a light remodel and give us access to the texas deck. The issaquah class is also my least fav for a lot of reasons.

It would be nice, but I doubt it's going to happen. As it is, the Issaquah class is going to be retired early, at 50-55 years old. They have been some of the ferry system's most reliable ferries, so I'm sure WSF likes them for that reason.
What are some of the other reasons that you don't like the Issaquahs, besides the lack of sun deck access? Personally, that's the only thing I don't like about the Issaquahs.

They feel cheap, incridibly loud and have giant wakes. At least the tator tots you can get at the gally is a tasty treat.

Imagine how loud it is when 3 of them at a time are assigned to Anacortes and you're staying on a boat in Friday Harbor . Sitting around, you can tell "Oh the Issaquah-ferry is arriving" because of the unique engine sounds LOL

Your doomed lol. BUT THAT WAS A DREAM! Wsf has spared you with the Samish, The quiet and low wake ferry that has a very bland interior. But hey its the safest in the fleet with no corrosion YEah right Samish had a hole due to corrosion! At least you wont be swamped by her wake. I heard that steel corrosion hasent spared the issaquah's. and heak i think the issaquahs need that large wake cuz if those wakes are hitting her on the sides, the waves are going to be shootin on the sides. The issaquahs are just too scared of the waves to simply she has to make her own and hope her own wake will destroy the 4 footers.

You're lucky if you get to hear the horn during the day, but you're even more lucky if you're already asleep and they "sound the horn" at 1030pm which I didn't even think was allowed!

Wow, I really hope I wasn't this obnoxious and troll-ish when I first joined this forum. I do recognize that I got off to a rough start here when I joined seven ( ) years ago, (this was the first internet forum I joined) but take my advice and think about what you're saying before hitting the post button. Seriously. Wishing that ferries get in worse shape or being glad that they are doing so is just about as over-the-top as wishing death upon another person, which in most cases is completely uncalled for and extreme.

Might be quite extreme but just.. There getting pretty old now and it would be good to have them replaced by the olympics soon. Or maybe we will cry when there gone. Maybe we take em for granted.

By the look of those photos that sounds more like a full on collision than a hard landing. Both the berth & the vessel will be out of service for a while, I think.

The dolphin, however, took a beating.

Yikes! The name "Can't Land It" immediately came to mind - taken from EGFleet's website: Upon entering service, the computerized propulsion system failed and resulted in the ferry demolishing docks at both Clinton and Mukilteo within weeks of one another. The ferry earned the nicknamed “Can’t Land It” and one local radio station made up a song called “The Wreck of the Ferry Cathlamet” set to the tune of Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”

Yeah, understood. Don't see why the dock would need to be "out of service" if its functional. I don't imagine docking without a landing aid is completely banned? Managed at Loepz in 2014 with construction. From WSDOT just a few minutes ago -> Kitsap can come back to restore 2-boat service if the dock is OK and Cathlamet can be moved (both USCG clearance pending)
