Any reason the Evergreen State has been sitting at Anacortes since the Chelan came back?

My guess is she is going to be the inter-island ferry while the Illahee goes into drydock for maintenence.
I think Barnacle had mentioned this in another post recently.

I believe he did mention it elsewhere. ;D

So when does the Evergreen State take over for the Illahee on the Inter-Island run and for how long?

In a day or two; for a few weeks. Roughly. I don't have the service plan in front of my or my glasses within reach.

Either the Evergreen is on trials or she is taking over for the Illahee right now.

Either the Evergreen is on trials or she is taking over for the Illahee right now. As of 12:39, the Evergreen State was at Orcas and the Illahee was not showing up on vessel watch. I'm assuming at this point that the Evergreen has taken over for the Illahee.

Just wondering how MV Evergreen State works out as the inner-island ferry in the San Juans? Has there been any consideration of using Evergreen as the regular vessel on this route during the busy summer months?

Not until we have more vessels available for relief... the Evergreen is usually the only boat of any size that isn't committed one way or another during the summer months.

There was a strange "look" on the Anacortes web cam tonight around 8PM. Looked like MV Evergreen State was in one of the ferry slips and the Rhody was in the second? ? As the MV Chelan arrived, the Evergreen pulled out with vehicles and headed back to the Islands. What's going on??? Added comment: at about 8:30PM, Rhody departs.

As the MV Chelan arrived, the Evergreen pulled out with vehicles and headed back to the Islands. What's going on??? The Rhody was probably making a brief stop before heading over to drydock. As for the Evergreen State... I just looked at the schedule the only trip where the inter-island vessel takes on cars at Anacortes is the 10:30 sailing (except for Friday).

(1) Rhody was putting off crew cars before heading for drydock.
(2) Unscheduled Thursday night alteration: Evergreen heads in to ANA to pick up FH cars; Hyak stops at LPZ to pick up interisland traffic. It's been happening every Thursday for the last few weeks; tonight was the last one.

Why would WSF wait until the busy summer season to renew the COI on MV Evergreen State? Could this have been renewed earlier in the spring when Evergreen was spending most of the time idle at Eagle Harbor?

Post by Barnacle on Jul 12, 2007 17:36:30 GMT -8
The boat isn't usually part of the game plan during the summer, and it shouldn't have been this year either. The CoIs are usually renewed at the same time every year; i.e., when the boat can be spared. This year it didn't work out that way. Also, I find your 'most of the time idle' comment a bit inaccurate... it doesn't hardly seem like it got two weeks together at tie-up.

I know there is a very good answer to this question: Why is the HIYU in the San Jans instead of the Evergreen?
Just joking...I read the WSF note that says the Evergreen is going in the yard.

I was curious to know if anyone can recall when the E-State saw this long of a stint of service, must be some 5 years at least?

I was curious to know if anyone can recall when the E-State saw this long of a stint of service, must be some 5 years at least? 2002, when she was replacing the Tillikum and Klahowya on the Vashon route when they went in for new control systems. She was on the route for almost the whole year (outside of maintenance and when the ferries were diverted to Colman Dock for a few weeks in the fall).

She was also in service for quite a while in the winter of 2004-2005 when the Sealth climbed the rock, but not as long as this time around.

Just wondering how MV Evergreen State performed with a full summer of work in the Islands? Was her additional capacity appreciated? The day we rode her from Friday Harbor to Orcas she was about 80% full on the car deck and had several high rise truck trailers that likely would not have fit onto MV Illahee. It was great to see the old gal "home again!"

Well, the Mighty Evergreen State is in a very unusual situation as the interisland boat: usually she's filling in for a larger, faster boat. The Illahee is, of course, slower and smaller. The E-State can get the job done and has been able to make up time quickly (what with 2.5 knots in reserve speed). It's been a complete success all the way around, and I would love it if we saw her as the interisland boat once the Millenium Class or whatever such foolishness they're being called this week get on line.
And yes, as one of the last to crew her regularly on the International run, it is indeed good to have her home. (I didn't work her on her last day to Sidney, but since it was my day off, I took the ride because I had gotten word that it was going to be the final trip. It was.)

Looks like the revered MV Evergreen State is going back to work; she is scheduled out of Southworth on Sunday afternoon. Too bad they can't open the galley; it was opened this spring when she was assigned to the Edmonds/Kingston route.

So it looks like the E-State is going to sub for the Klahowya while she is out. Is the Issaquah going to replace the Kitsap for roughly a 3 week period? Seems like they should just keep her out of service and get 'er done.

Has the revered Evergreen found a new home? It seems like she is a excellent fit for the San Juans. Sail on mighty Evergreen .
