Coho in amazing dawn setting. - at Victoria on August 13, 2015 . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr ------------ It was worth the effort. These are excellent Mr. Horn. I especially like the last one. Did you go out & buy an expensive Nikon?

These are excellent Mr. Horn. I especially like the last one. Did you go out & buy an expensive Nikon? Thanks. That one was HDR, and the purple lighting at the old CPR Terminal sure helped. And with it being 35-minutes before sunrise, there was a good mix of natural and artificial light. ...just the type of setting that I bought my Sony for. But for daylight shots (and everything else, for that matter), I look at the photos that Scott recently posted of Oak Bay and Capilano, and that full-frame sure makes a difference.

I have been secretly coveting the new Sony A7rII, but at $4000 (body only) I first need to win the lottery. Add another 3 or 4 thousand for FF lenses. I am, however, acquiring the pocketable Sony HX90V. Image quality will be so-so due to small sensor, but on the other hand I won't decide not to bring it with me due to its weight/ bulk. a7rii.com/www.dpreview.com/products/sony/compacts/sony_dschx90v

All those things together takes about 90 minutes. Which breakwater were you referring to? Is there a Low Light Mike video available? I've got 2 on YouTube, soon to be 3: 1) Coho arriving at Victoria and then leaving - on an August 2013 day 2) On board complete trip video from Port Angeles to Victoria - July 2014 day 3) to come soon: Coho leaving at dawn - August 2015 morning

2) On board complete trip video from Port Angeles to Victoria - July 2014 day So, uhhh, watching the complete trip video in its entirety should help the question asker determine how long the Coho takes at each of those steps, right?

Well, it's a sped-up video at variable speeds... But I'm not sure what the importance of timing each segment is. Certainly not important enough to warrant the replies given so far. (we're suckers for time wasters...)

If your refering to the breakwater in Port Angeles I have no idea. Probably 5-10 mins out of the dock. I know in Victoria it takes about 15 mins from when she leaves the dock till she passed the Ogden Point breakwater.

You ask a lot of one line, pointed questions. It would help us to know why you are interested in finding out this information; something along the lines of "I'm curious to know how long Coho takes to leave the slip, get up to speed, and pass the breakwater because..." That was an example of how you could have better phrased your question so we know where you are coming from. The way you did it is very off-putting and makes people not want to respond to you. Now Koastal Karl did, graciously, respond to your question this time, but don't expect that to always happen if you continue with the rapid one-line questions you have been firing at us without any further information.

those are cool shots. where did you stand to get them? I was at a public walkway called Songhees Point, which is accessed from Songhees Road (off of Tyee Road). Those names show up in Google Maps. It's a great location for Coho and seaplanes in Victoria harbour.

I'd like to know so I can tell any friend that wants to take it so they can be prepared for those events. Thanks! continuing the off-topic: Assuming that you live in the USA, that style of vague questioning about detailed items will set-off any border agent's or ferry worker's "terrorist radar." That's exactly the style of questioning and communication that make those agents suspicious. So, there's another important reason for you to be careful with how you ask things. Oddness makes people suspicious. -------------- To answer your still vaguely reasoned question, you should tell "any of your friends" that they should be simply pay attention to the journey, and watch what scenery is passing them by. Like any other person who is interested in these things, they simply need to look at a map to get a rough idea of when the important journey-points will happen. No need to get more precise than that, unless they have illegal motivations. It is fun and good to figure things out for yourself.

About that Coho ferry...
Here's a video I found of her at Victoria in the early morning hours, and then her 6:10am departure.
There aren't a lot people outside on her aft sundeck at 6:10am...

That is one of my favourite ferry crossings, and one that I will be doing on Friday, October 23rd, as we head to Vancouver Island for Founder's Day Reunion Weekend at Shawnigan Lake School.

I'm talking about WHERE he got them. Well, your question was pretty vague. If you are looking for a specific response, your question needs to be specific. And, you already asked him that question a few posts ago, so once again, I believe you have your answer. I refer you to the following if you are still confused: those are cool shots. where did you stand to get them? I was at a public walkway called Songhees Point, which is accessed from Songhees Road (off of Tyee Road). Those names show up in Google Maps.
