Looks like the Yakima has been sprung from Vigor. Just noticed from a live cam shot on the news she's at Colman Dock.

Yeah well it would of been easier if they had did this during the spring or fall or winter. Everything is so busy in the summer. And what ferry company takes a boat out anyways in the dead of summer? That is pretty goofy! I dont think BC Ferries would do that unless they really had to.

That is pretty goofy! I dont think BC Ferries would do that unless they really had to. BC Ferries, it seems, does not cycle their vessels for maintenance time as frequently as WSF does. Drydock space is at a premium around here, so maintenance must occur year round. Usually, though, summertime and maintenance is limited to the Evergreen State class vessels, as the Sealth is available for relief. I believe the "big ferries" are going in this summer due to delayed maintenance from the Walla Walla problems last December.

oh no! I have a feeling she is gonna be coming back early now! Haven't even made it on the Kaleetan yet! The Kaleetan will still be in the San Juans till the week of September 9th. The Yakima will come back on September 2nd. The Hyak will be in drydock that week, so the Kaleetan will remain in service to cover for the Hyak.

The Yakima's horn telling small boats to get out of the way back in June. First comes the actual horn then the best part: the horn echoing off the islands.
Enjoy!

I was looking at one of the addendums to see why the IFB for the Cathlamet was cancelled and found this:
The Yakima will be out of service for at least through the duration of the Summer schedule.

Bummer. I know a bunch of super class generators were refurbished last year. Are there spare driver motors sitting around or after the whole fiasco a few years ago are we down on those too?

I don't think WSF has any spare drive motors for the Supers. Otherwise the Elwha wouldn't have been out of service for so long back in 2006-7. One of the drive motors failed and had to be rebuilt back east somewhere.

The Yakima is supposed to come back on the week of the 22nd of September to the Anacortes-San Juan route according to the Washington State Ferries maintenance schedule.

The Yakima is supposed to come back on the week of the 22nd of September to the Anacortes-San Juan route according to the Washington State Ferries maintenance schedule. Do we really need a "blow-by-blow" accounting of the Maintenance Schedule for each vessel? It would be a full-time job keeping up with all of the vessel movements, and I don't think it's really necessary to post that information here. That said, it will be good to have Yakima back.

And then there's the whole litany of uncalculables and imponderables. I noticed the Impacts board doesn't mention anything like sea trials for the Yakima.

Was the drive motor removed from the Yakima for repairs or was/will it be repaired inside the ferry?

Was the drive motor removed from the Yakima for repairs or was/will it be repaired inside the ferry? Removed, from what I was told, and shipped somewhere back east or to the mid-west ( I can't remember which state was mentioned.) There's only one or two places that even can work on them anymore, they're so obsolete.

I had looked at the IFB and it didn't mention anything about the drive motor (it did mention first phase installation of motor room ventilation modifications). How long are the repairs supposed to take?

I'm not sure anyone knows at this point. I've heard rumors that she's going to be out the rest of the year. And yet, the Maintenance Schedule shows Yakima in the islands when the Fall Schedule commences. Now, I know the Maintenance Schedule isn't always very up-to-date, and tends to be full of inaccuracies, but if they have even an inkling that the repairs to Yakima won't be completed for some time, it seems kind of silly, or perhaps wishful thinking, that they would show Yakima being back in service so soon. Curious.

Curious. Given all the publicity that took place when they announced the Tacoma would be out until December? Not that curious. Could also be there's a lot of wishful thinking that they'll have the Yakima back in time for fall. Barnacle noted that there was no mention of any sea trialing for the Yakima which would be mandatory before the vessel went back into service. I've not seen a schedule this messed up in a while. Speaking of the Tacoma and ferries being out, according to the new lay-up sheet for 2015, she's going to be out again from March 18th I think it was until July 5th next year.
