If anyone here is planning on getting pictures or riding on the Yakima today, you'll have to wait until the afternoon (she is the #3 vessel and the #3 vessel doesn't enter service until after 12:00).

The Yakima is now in service on the triangle route. Her first sailing from the northend of Vashon at 12:10pm was almost a full load of cars heading for Fauntleroy. This is a rare combo for this route: 144 car MV Yakima, 124 car MV Kitsap, 90 car MV Sealth. I belive the last time the Yakima was on the Vashon route was many years ago for the detour to colman dock when Fauntleroy was closed for a few weeks. I am courious if this might be the first time the Yakima has done the regular triangle service. I know the Kaleetan and Hyak have. Not sure about the Elwha which has also done the detour to Colman once I think.

Prior to today, the last time a Super Class vessel was on the route was in 1995 (the Kaleetan was subbing for the Issaquah).

Took a crossing on the Walla Walla (and due to an incident that I witnessed on that ferry, I likely will never desire to cross on the Walla Walla ever again) at Kingston. I agree. Those things are brutal and just plain inexcusable. A similar incident stole my desire to wear cotton ever again.

LOL putting it this way, it was not a pretty sight to witness. The guy should've waited 'til he got home to do it. Not in his truck on the main deck right next to my car.

Some fresh pics of Yakima on Friday, July 6th. I was on the 19:20 sailing from Anacortes to Orcas. Yakima and Hyak at Anacortes. Yakima is in the closest slip (Slip 1) Yakima's cabin, which in my opinion, is the best looking out of the 4 Supers Upper outside deck on Yakima I love the arcing wake the Supers make when power turning out of Anacortes. The captain did not, however, apply full throttle right out of the slip. They actually eased out of the slip and didn't crank up the speed until the vessel was a fair ways out from the dock. So, contrary to popular belief, WSF captains do not always power out of the docks, and of course, they never do that at Bainbridge where they have to go real slow coming in and out of Eagle Harbor

The few times i have gone out of Anacortes I thought the ships really powered out of there quite fast the last two times on the Sealth and the last time on the Yakima! I love the Super Class though! Which interior do you think is better the Yakima or Kaleetan??? I havent been on the Kaleetan but I have seen potos and I want to go her I think those two ships though have the nicer interiors.

Sometimes I wonder about people who actually like the interiors of those older WSF vessels.... Karl, are you colourblind? Cuz all I see is tan paint and floors, fast-food restaurant booths, and hospital waiting room chairs... ;D

I love the Super Class though! Which interior do you think is better the Yakima or Kaleetan??? I havent been on the Kaleetan but I have seen potos and I want to go her I think those two ships though have the nicer interiors. Kaleetan and Yakima are pretty similar to each other in that both received extensive cabin renovations in the late 90's, early 2000's. Kaleetan's "extreme makeover" was first in 1999. Yakima followed shortly thereafter, and in my opinion, turned out better. As for the other two Supers, Elwha was actually the first in the series to get a cabin refresh in the early 90's, and still sports the look of that era. Hyak was due to get re-done after Yakima, but funding fell short (i.e. Initiative 695 depleted those funds) so her upgrades were limited to structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, not the "pretty stuff" that passengers see. As far as your question goes, it's largely a matter of personal taste as to which cabin colour scheme you prefer. Kaleetan uses mostly blues and teals; Yakima has shades of darker blues and some purples in there. Both use that light faux-wood laminate on the walls. However, on Yakima, they installed some dark faux-wood finishes in between the windows which I think looks pretty classy, at least as classy as these boats can look. None of them are going to win any design awards. I like Yakima because I think the colour scheme is a little richer than Kaleetan's. Both boats are comfortable, and I doubt most passengers notice, or even care, about the colour schemes. So you can compare directly: KaleetanYakima

I am back from my WSF trip I did today. I ended up just doing a trip on the Yakima from Anacortes to Friday Harbour and back. I did the 2pm out of Anacortes and the 3:45pm out of Friday Harbour which left like 10 min late due to heavy traffic. It took forever for the cars to unload at Friday Harbour as it was so congested there. I think the Yakima is my favorite of the 3 Supers I have been on. It seemed like there was a cranky women on the PA on the trip over telling people to turn off their car alarms or else they would have to stay with their car for the whole trip. Not much else to report on.

That's not cranky, that's nice and professional of her. There were the same announcements when I was on the Chelan last week. - I wish that BCFerries would be more strict about this, too. --------------------------- And once again, even though you don't care about cosmetic appearances (such as paint/rust on ferries, timing of schedules, or spelling of words), I'll mention that in the USA, they spell harbour as "harbor", no U. It is a different country, after all.

Those are some good photos of Yakima on an unusual assignment - unusual for that vessel, anyway. FYI - these pics you posted were taken by SS San Mateo, a fellow forum member and moderator. You've been posting a lot of other people's photos lately. If it's from your own family or friends with their permission, that is one thing, but going on to someone else's Flickr page and posting their photos is another matter altogether. Yes, I realize you are adding the disclaimer that you did not take the photos, and you are including a link to their photo page, so they at least get the credit, but did you ask them if you could post their photos?

Courtesy of Barnacle, the Yakima leaving Colman Dock in 1979. Although looking at it, could be she's arriving at Colman Dock.
