Whatever was wrong with it must've been minor.

Also from the Byrne collection...the original ferry fact sheet for the Issaquah Class, which, at this point, had yet to be built.

The ol' Issaquah is out of service again, it's been happening a lot recently... Can't help but wonder what the issue is.

It is the Evergreen State retirement curse! Every time they try to retire it, things go up in smoke.

Yesterday I took advantage of the weather and did a quick round trip on the Issaquah from Mukilteo to Clinton, here's a few pics: Boarding in Mukilteo: Looking at the lighthouse from inside the cabin: Another view of the cabin. If you look closely some of the seats are a different shade of blue than others, I'm assuming that some are from the pre-refurbished cabin and others are new: A picklefork. Not many people outside on this January afternoon: Approaching Clinton: Sunset over a picklefork: Back at Mukilteo: Sailing towards Clinton. An hour after I left I got an email from WSF saying that she had been replaced by the Tokitae... perfect timing!

I'll concede that it is at least the second (and likely the third) nameplate in that location, but that particular plank's been on duty for several years.

I rode the issy from Fauntleroy yesterday. Same name plate in the same location, looks like it has been refinished and repainted is all. It definitely was a lot more visible looking at the name plate from the end of the dock.

A water line broke on the Issaquah this morning, resulting in pools of water in and near the galley serving area.

I haven't seen Izzy for a while, where is she She was taken out of service for a regularly-scheduled drydocking at the beginning of May. She was due back in service last week, however, according to an FVS crew member I spoke to yesterday, she's still going to be out for four more weeks due to excessive wear discovered in a gearbox requiring emergency repairs.

Does anyone have any updates on the Issaquah? She has been out an extremely long time. What I have been told: >Issaquah was removed from service in May for regularly scheduled maintenance. >During the maintenance period, extensive wear was discovered in one of the gearboxes, necessitating new parts be manufactured. >Gearbox repairs were completed in late August. However, as they were preparing her to re-enter service, a steering problem was uncovered. >The Issaquah was originally scheduled for another maintenance period in mid-November. However, due to all of the problems that were uncovered, it was decided to switch her maintenance period with Cathlamet (which was originally scheduled for three weeks of Eagle Harbor this month.) That's the lines of what I've been hearing. I don't think anyone really knows when she'll be coming back at this point- it seems like every time she's about to come back a new issue comes up. Hopefully everything can be sorted out very soon...

So, per someone I got to speak with the other day, sea trials on the Issaquah are now underway and today, March 14, is the third successful day of trials. The return-to-service date remains scheduled for March 31 at Vashon, running with the Kitsap and Cathlamet.

Well, its official. WSF has stated that the FVS route will return to full 3-boat service with the Issaquah on Monday.

I've lost count how many times the return of the boat has been postponed. It's great to have her back though.
