Photo heavy post
Last weekend, I went on a ferry awesome Boy Scout bike trip. We started on Saturday from Lincoln Park, going on the Fauntleroy-Southworth ferry, and riding along the water past Manchester and stopping at the Port Orchard Marina to eat lunch. Here's some pics of the Kitsap departing Bremerton: Kitsap departing Bremerton by compdude787, on Flickr Kitsap departing Bremerton by compdude787, on Flickr After having lunch, we rode our bikes back to Manchester State Park, where we camped that night. Here's some pictures I took at the beach of the Kitsap going by: Kitsap in Rich Passage by compdude787, on Flickr Zoomed way in... I took a ride on the mighty and crowded Kitsap today! Here you see the Kitsap arriving at Bremerton, taken with a much better camera than the last time I tried that! MV Kitsap - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Those are awesome photos of the Kitsap. She is a great ship, but it looks like she was arriving in Seattle, not Bremerton in the top photo. The slip looks like it is in Seattle by the color and overhead walkway style. The Bremeton dock is an aqua marine color.

I guess I did well over too many Bremerton trips this year if I start making that mistake.

Kitsap is looking pretty good! I don't care how much Bremerton folks hate her, she's my favorite Issaquah class boat.

Haha, yeah a few weeks ago I learned just how close Southworth was to Bremerton. Still way out of my way being in Edmonds!

Yesterday while on the Kitsap on the 11:10 out of Seattle right after passing the narrowest part of Rich Passage the ship's alarm went off on the car deck. Just moments later we heard the Captain over the PA: This is an Abandon Ship Drill. This is a drill. All crew go to your stations. Shortly afterwards three crew were deploying the No. 1 end rescue boat (and three other crew were most likely doing the same at the other end). So they lowered the rescue boat in the water and then got it back up, the whole process filmed by myself.
So here is the video, and photos are to be posted later this weekend. Sorry for the shakiness, but my tripod was unfortunately already back in its bag at that moment.

Recently I got to take a fun flight over Anacortes and got to see the MV Kitsap from the air and in drydock: The other WSF ferry in the Dakota Creek Industries shipyard is the MV Sealth.

The Kitsap is back on the Bremerton run! Booooooooo! Especially when we're getting a nice spring like that, really? Anyways, here's the doomed ferry on the Bremerton run last Friday, 3/7/14. Approaching Seattle, with the Space Needle and some Belltown development in the background: MV Kitsap en-route to Seattle - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Even more developed than Belltown? Downtown. MV Kitsap loading at Slip 1, Seattle - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr You said she was in a developed place? Where's all the development already? MV Kitsap loading at Slip 1, Seattle - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Here's the development of my ferry photography techniques, using HDR on the Kitsap. But that's all the development in that picture. MV Kitsap loading at Slip 1, Seattle - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr

The Kitsap in the sun en-route to Bremerton, 2-23-14 (last Sunday) First, a shot with the "old" camera that has the telephoto lens: Then a shot with the new camera but a rather ridiculous kit lens:

When the Kitsap comes back the Cathlamet is going to go to the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth to relieve the Evergreen State which is going to be a standby vessel not retired anymore. This is all according to the Washington State Ferries service impact page.
