Sooo today I was on the Kittitas going to Whidbey (also when coming back, unfortunately) and when we arrived at Clinton right after the "we are now arriving at our destination" announcement I caught the bridge crew's eye and signaled to them to blow the horn the RIGHT way. It worked when I was on the Walla Walla two weeks ago and sure did work this time! And I also got it on numerical tape for our enjoyement. Her horn is not as good sounding as some of the ferries up in BC, but it's still worth sharing:

Some photos of the Kit running up sound at Mukilteo on November 24th, a fine winter day. This trip brought some terrific pictures home! First the Kittitas ' wake as she was underway to Clinton in the morning. I love that clam reflection-prone water that comes up on those days. Wake, MV Kittitas - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr The other few were taken at dusk. First here's the Kittitas arriving at Clinton, with the f/16 sunstars. Yes, that meant that I would loose a bit of quality (and a lot of light!) but overall it turned out pretty good: MV Kittitas en-route to Clinton - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Getting even closer, with the Cathlamet in the background: MV Kittitas en-route to Clinton - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr My. Best. Photo. Of the entire day. MV Kittitas arriving at Slip 1, Clinton - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr After she'd docked, I wanted to so some long exposures at f/16 to get some good sunstars, and I also set my ISO speed to 100, to minimize noise. However, when I took the picture, the back of the ferry was moving towards the east side dolphins, and it got all blurred. But I like the effect though. Calm water with good light and the front of the ferry was still neat. My name for it: "what happens at Clinton in 30 seconds". MV Kittitas at Slip 1, Clinton - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr I then left my parents to drive the car on, and went as a footie. Here's the shot of boarding her with the sunstars: MV Kittitas at Slip 1, Clinton - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr The bridge while we were underway, with a nice sunstar up top: Bridge, MV Kittitas - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr And just because you can't have enough sunstars, here our arrival at Mukilteo, with the tower light in a nice sunstar. (and the life ring is there as well, but that's minor details) MV Kittitas arriving at Mukilteo - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr

Alright, on April 9 I took a trip on the Kittitas, just like last year. I rode the Kittitas to Clinton in the early morning, with impressive scenery. For instance, that was the wake when we left Mukilteo: Wake, MV Kittitas - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Getting loaded with some Tokina power as we cross Possesion Sound: Bridge and Lifering, MV Kittitas - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Later that week, it's even a clearer day as the Cathlamet and the Kittitas pass under Mount Baker: MV Kittitas en-route to Clinton and MV Cathlamet en-route to Mukilteo - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr

Here's a video I did of the Kittitas on a crossing from Mukilteo to Clinton on the day of the Tokitae's open ship. Enjoy!

Got a good share of photos of the Kittitas lately. I took a trip up to Port Townsend on July 30th, and was "forced" to ride on her because it was the day that the Tokitae broke down in the early afternoon. I also got to see her at sunset on September 13th, while enjoying an Ivar's dinner at the Mukilteo lighthouse. First, let's start with the July pictures. It's early morning and I'm waiting for the Tokitae at Mukilteo. I missed the sailing I was supposed to be on because of a very late bus and so I just watch the Kittitas come in and out of Mukilteo. Thru shot: MV Kittitas approaching Mukilteo - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Perfect early morning light: MV Kittitas approaching Mukilteo - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Kittias and Baker as seen from the Tokitae: MV Kittitas en-route to Mukilteo - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr I'm back in Clinton from Port Townsend...little problem though. The Tokitae has broken down and is now coming into slip 2 to get repaired. The Kittitas is getting a full load at Slip 1: MV Kittitas at Slip 1 and MV Tokitae at Slip 2, Clinton - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Pulling out of the dock: MV Kittitas outbound from Clinton - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr An hour later, coming into Clinton again: MV Kittitas approaching Clinton - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr The full load we had meant that I could get a shot of the name: Bulwark Name, MV Kittitas - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Pulling out of Mukilteo: MV Kittitas outbound from Mukilteo - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr The Tokitae is back in service, and was waiting for the Kittitas to clear Mukilteo: MV Kittitas en-route to Clinton and MV Tokitae waiting for the Mukilteo dock to clear - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Now let's move onto September's sunset shots. Last weekend (Sep. 12-13), I went on the Mukilteo-Clinton run and noticed that Kittitas was running about five minutes late. Was this a result of heavy weekend traffic or done intentionally to help with the longer loading times of the Tokitae?

Was this a result of heavy weekend traffic or done intentionally to help with the longer loading times of the Tokitae? It would have been due to heavy traffic. The Mukilteo to Clinton route is a very heavily traveled route and on a busy weekend it's easy to go past the 10 minute dwell time that the schedule allows.

Well the Kit is off the Whidbey route and the Cat is back. What is going on with the Kit? As of now if I am not mistaken WSF have 4 vessels unassigned.

We had a really strange experience on the Kittitas tonight as a result of an emergency transport off Vashon that ended up resulting in a weird traffic pattern, which I thought might be worth a mention.
The late 7:20p sailing from Southworth to Fauntleroy non-stop arrived at Southworth just before 7:40p from Vashon, discharged traffic, but their 7:00p from Vashon to Southworth actually loaded Fauntleroy traffic (it isn't scheduled to do so) and they were parked at the #2 end of the vessel during boarding. We loaded both cars for Fauntleroy and Vashon on the 7:20p sailing (only scheduled to load for Fauntleroy), spun the vessel and sailed to Vashon where we loaded the ambulance, but then loaded more cars for Fauntleroy, on a completely unscheduled load out of Slip 1, which seemed to confuse many of the people during boarding .
