That would be neat to ride her as the interisland ferry. I hope I can get a chance to do so. It seems like she is really becoming the relief vessel more and more.

Where can I see the maintenance schedule? I can never find it anymore! It can be found here: www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/serviceCurrently she is scheduled to be in the San Juans the last 2 weeks of August. It seems like she is really becoming the relief vessel more and more. It does seem that way. As of now, she is only scheduled to be in service as a relief vessel through the rest of the year.

Klahowya will be heading north today to fill in for an ailing Evergreen State, which is being towed to the yard.
As of 8:55 the Klahowya is at Harbor Island, likely fueling up for the trip to Anacortes.

Thank you WSF! Looks like according the maintenance schedule she is now only up in the San Jauns till the E State is repaired after these recent problems then the E State will be back for the rest of the summer. There goes my chance to get on her. Sorry Karl, but you should be thanking me. It was I who phoned WSF and asked them to change the maintenance schedule. I had no choice.... (parody this was)

Yesterday's crossing aboard the M.V. Salish began with a wakeup call at 8 o'clock in the morning, and an immediate departure to the Southworth ferry dock with one stopover for breakfast. Upon arrival at 9:40, I waited and took my camera out to photograph the ferries, unfortunately both of my long digital zoom lenses weren't fully cooperating so I had to break out my manually-operated zoom lenses for my Nikon. This is an image-intensive post. The Klahowya departing the north end of Vashon. We would be stopping over at Vashon again once we departed The Klahowya at the dock Finally aboard, after a 25-minute wait. This is the No. 2 End passenger lounge. An old engine telegraph and telemotor control. I loved this part of the Klahowya. The No. 1 End shelter. It is easy to see how much these vessels are similar to their larger Super Class cousins. The No. 2 End car deck The No. 2 End pilothouse. The Klahowya reminded me of being something akin to the Kaleetan. Perhaps a "baby sister that hasn't grown up" yet. The Klahowya's rebuild plaque in the No. 2 End Galley. The Klahowya's No. 1 End nameboard. And it's back down to the car deck after the arrival p/a announcement. Next stop, Colman Dock!

Bolding the part that is relevant to the dear old Klahowya... Ferry riders from Kitsap will face more cramped boats this week By Ed Friedrich Posted December 10, 2012 at 5:32 p.m. SEATTLE — It'll be four more days before ferry service returns to near normal. Washington State Ferries officials expect the 202-car Tacoma to come back to the Bainbridge-Seattle route early Friday evening, triggering a series of changes that should restore two routes to regular capacity and move a third in that direction. That's without getting any of three broken ferries back. The 188-car Walla Walla went down Nov. 4 with a fried drive engine and won't be back until at least March. On Thursday night, a hull crack was discovered in the 90-car Sealth. It was pulled from service and can't get into a dry dock for repairs until Dec. 15-17. The 87-car Klahowya broke a propulsion generator late Saturday and will be out at least five weeks, said Washington State Ferries spokeswoman Marta Coursey.
In the meantime, the state is throwing every boat it has at the problem, and then some. It has even brought in Kitsap Transit's passenger-only research ferry Rich Passage 1 to help out. Costs haven't been estimated. "Providing reliable and safe service will always be our top priority," Coursey said. "In this case, we're going to do what we have to do." George Capacci, WSF's deputy chief for operations and construction, contacted Kitsap Transit Executive Director John Clauson late Sunday morning to ask whether it'd be possible to operate the research boat. It had been docked in Port Orchard since completing wake testing Nov. 2. Kitsap Transit only had funding to run it during the research. The crew was brought back from the Bremerton-Port Orchard run and liability insurance reinstated. The state will reimburse Kitsap Transit for the crew and other operating costs, Clauson said. The 118-passenger Rich Passage 1 will run the same morning and afternoon schedule as earlier because the dock in Seattle is open then between King County Ferry District trips. Sailings will be 6:20 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. from Seattle, 5:35 a.m. and 7:12 a.m. from Bremerton, 5:07 p.m. and 6:43 p.m. from Seattle and 4:20 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. from Bremerton. Kitsap Transit will operate the boat through Friday, Clauson said. There have been no discussions between Kitsap Transit and the state about long-term use of Rich Passage 1. Customers who pay with cash or ORCA e-purse must buy a ticket at Colman Dock before boarding the passenger ferry at the passenger ferry dock. Those with a ferry monthly pass or an ORCA monthly pass can pay directly at the passenger ferry. Clauson, who has authority to make the decision, informed transit board chairwoman Charlotte Garrido on Sunday and sent a message to all board members Monday morning. Rich Passage 1 was scheduled to sail Wednesday to Port Townsend, where it will be dry-docked for the winter and receive warranty work. An investigation of the Walla Walla incident hasn't been completed. The ferries system sent a spare engine to the manufacturer in Anaheim, Calif., to see whether it can be refurbished, but that has yet to be determined, Coursey said. The Sealth's hull crack will be welded Dec. 15-17 at Dakota Creek Shipyard in Anacortes. The estimated cost is $94,000. The crack was the result of wear and tear, Coursey said. The ferries system doesn't have a spare part for the Klahowya, which is 64 years old,(sic) and has to have one manufactured in Germany, Coursey said. WSF added the passenger-only ferry Rich Passage 1 to the Bremerton route Monday because the replacement Salish was too slow to keep the schedule and had to cancel sailings. The 64-car boat, though only 18 months old, is traveling at only 11 or 12 knots. Ferries officials couldn't say Monday if it's just slow or if other factors were involved. The 64-car Salish will replace the 34-car Hiyu Friday evening on the Southworth-Vashon Island-Fauntleroy route, leaving it 24 cars short of capacity. The Sealth will return by Monday, followed by the 144-car Hyak, which is undergoing routine maintenance and its annual Coast Guard inspection, in late December.
