Here's the same Klahowya trip from Orcas to Shaw, as shown in the previously posted video, but this is in simple real time.
The route is so short that I thought it would be interesting to see it in real time, so here is the 7-minute video. - I cheated a bit and cut-off the last minute, because that was just slow movement into the berth on the Shaw side, and that was like watching paint dry.
So for those of you who like to view things as they were in real time, here is the short, but slow, trip from Orcas to Shaw.

In the evening of July 15, 2014, Klahowya took a trip from Friday Harbor, to Lopez, to Shaw, to Orcas. I got on at Lopez, and rode to Shaw & Orcas.
Here's what I saw.

Having spent the majority of my ferry rides on the Klahowya since she served pretty much on one route her entire career; I was curious to the thoughts that the San Juan folks had about the Klahowya as their inter-Island boat? My favorite WSF boat is the Evergreen State. In June I took a trip to Friday Harbor to enjoy what I thought would be my last ride on this boat. Now I am enjoying her encore post-retirement presentation just about everyday on my regular route.

I'm not a commuter, but... operationally, she seems to be the same as the Evergreen--possibly slightly slower; I'm not sure. The amenities, both for passengers and crew, are nicer. But I felt from a nostalgic point we should've gotten the Tillikum and let the Klahowya finish out at Vashon.

Here is a nice tour of the Klahowya while in the Islands. Ironicly, this video was taken on New Years Eve, 2014.

A novelty shot of Klahowya, seen from Mt. Maxwell on Salt Spring Island. - yes, you can see a WSF domestic route from Canada. She is headed from Orcas Island to Friday Harbor (left to right). The small outcroppings of land behind the ship (to the left, in the photo) are likely the entrance to Wasp Passage. Shaw Island is behind the port-side of the ship. The Roche Harbor area of San Juan Island is in front of the ship's starboard side. - late morning on July 15, 2015. The photo is taken at 11:30am, so this indicates that she's running a bit late. Is the Klahowya's galley open on the inter-island route?

no the Galley on the inter island boat is never open. I dont think it ever has been on any of the ships on the inter island run.

no the Galley on the inter island boat is never open. I dont think it ever has been on any of the ships on the inter island run. The VASHON's galley was redone in the spring of 1978 as she was being prepared for her return to the San Juans for the above mentioned assignment after a period of time at Columbia Beach. The RHODY was up there doing the same thing in 1984. I rode the Steel Electrics in the islands, but those rides were in the 1970s and on domestic runs to and from Anacortes. Galleys aboard the KDT ferries and ES were closed on my rides recently on the inter-island run. Never got to ride the VASHON and RHODY in the San Juans, though, so I don't know if their galleys were open.

I dont think it ever has been on any of the ships on the inter island run. It has been open, long in the past. Back before the galley contracts were split.

I dont think it ever has been on any of the ships on the inter island run. It has been open, long in the past. Back before the galley contracts were split. I think what happened is that during the long dark period of no galley service fleetwide, the bidders just said 'not gonna' and it never reopened.

On my quest to visit every ferry terminal in 1 day (it is possible), I rode this ferry first from Friday Harbor to Orcas I assume very few ferry rides were actually involved? Well, to explain it, here is a list of all the ferries we traveled on: Friday Harbor - Orcas (stopping at Lopez and Shaw, walk-on) Orcas - Anacortes (stopping at Shaw and Lopez, walk-on) Coupeville - Port Townsend (walk-on) Port Townsend - Coupeville (walk-on) Clinton - Mukilteo Edmonds - Kingston Bainbridge - Seattle Seattle - Bremerton Point Defiance - Tahlequah Vashon - Fauntleroy (via Southworth, delayed 45 minutes) Link to view pictures of the trip: photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNPARftAX325ZGkcSv2Zt2IJCGIt9Z_Wv_pTxGbPWoIIwNEEcWssVYD4TyhNQHr0w?key=OGNBcHpERlB0dEQxQ0ZTdU45X09rNk1kUEl0elZn
