No reflection on the forum member for reporting it, but that's one of the nuttier news stories I've read in some time. Things must be pretty desperate in Kitimat if people are grasping at pipe dreams like this.
A private operator looking at car ferry service to Klemtu, Bella Bella and Hartley Bay? Come now. BC Ferries loses truckloads of money serving that area. No private operator would dream of getting into that market unless BC Ferries gave them a ferry, covered all their costs, and forked over a portion of David Hahn's salary on top of a generous subsidy.
Not to mention the fact that there's no car ferry dock in Kitimat or Hartley Bay. Good grief.

I live right here in Kitimat and this is the first that I have heard re this story.
Historically, there is a correlation between reports of ferry service coming to Kitimat and provincial elections. OMG, not one of those again.
I will not be holding my breath waiting for this plan to become reality!

:)not only ferry service to Kitimat but any undersized location is going to be improbable in today's polical reality as private sector would never consider it and governments haven,t the funds, nor the will to do any unprofitable service anymore. Even if Kitimat had thousands more political votes there would never be the will! :)mrdot.

Was reading the North Coast News and came across this: www.thenorthernview.com/news/166341136.html It appears that there is a study out there investigating a 3 day a week ferry service servicing the coast from Kitimat (presumably it would be PAX). I didn't see this posted anywhere else.
