Hi:
I'm wanting to take a trip on the Queen of Kelsey Bay, this coming Friday.
Does anyone know the schedual for this ship for this time of year?
And does anyone have any first-hand experience travelling on this ship? I'd appreciate any advice on how to make my Friday sailing more enjoyable and educational.
Thanks for the great advice that I know you'll give me.

And does anyone have any first-hand experience travelling on this ship? I'd appreciate any advice on how to make my Friday sailing more enjoyable and educational. Thanks for the great advice that I know you'll give me. Well, as we all know, the QoKB is the QoPR's twin, and is used rarely by by BCF, due to occasional issues with her engine (salvaged from the Sunshine Coast Queen just before she was sold) due to its age. I'd try to get an engine room tour, and post some photos of her engine. Weren't the plans of the QoKB changed just before her construction too, because Mr. WAC Bennett wanted a penthouse aboard? I thought they added an extra deck above the wheelhouse for that. See if you can gain access to the penthouse, and post pictures I'm not too sure of her schedule, but I know she's been running on rte 80 recently... That's from Horseshoe Bay to Skidegate, stopping at Duke Pt, Westview, Kelsey Bay, and Bella Bella (the new terminal) along the way. I think she leaves HSB on fridays around 02:30, and takes about 30 hours to get to Skidegate. I assume you'll be boarding in Nanaimo? Try and get a picture of the RCMP's mounted division as they board at Duke. It's an unusual sight to see. Also, you might want to stay aboard for her repositioning cruise to Ketchikan, to start the international route's season. The ship travels between there and Pier 69 in Seattle, stopping at TSA on the way south... Have a great trip, Mike, hope to see a detailed trip log

Instead, I plan to try and get some pictures of the Queen of Richmond on route 1.5 (Tsawwassen-Departure Bay). I hear heavy fog is forecast for Friday.

...And, when you get to Seattle, be ready to see your car stranded aboard your ship. They took out the car plank at Pier 69 quite some time ago there as the PRINCESS MARGUERITE and the VANCOUVER ISLAND PRINCESS moved to Pier 48 in 1989.
That's unless you have the strength of billions and you can squish-squash your buggy and carry if off via the Clipper passenger plank.
Then, after a visit to the un-squishers, you can drive it back to BC and get to the dock just in time to take the QUEEN OF RICHMOND back home. That's if you can get there without losing any nuts and bolts and air in the tires. I think someone will hear your "HELP!" holler and will give you a lift (that's if you promise to play an instrument on the way).
Have a jolly good time, Mr. Musical Moderator! ;D

The Clipper cats do their meowing at Pier 69 these days. ;D

Sorry that I just realized that I should have invited people to join me for my Friday trip on the old QKB.
Let me know if you're interested in joining me on part or all of the trip.

I'll come along! I'll be at Horseshoe Bay to catch the ferry. I guess to everybody getting on at Horseshoe Bay, we can meet at the Starbucks down the street, and get some coffees before setting off? Where will everybody else be boarding at, so we know when to expect you?

So a Vancouver Island Helicopter will drop me off mid-strait, if we can find the ship in the fog.

I'm game, not sure how the schedule works out but I'll either join @ Darrell or Horseshoe Bay.

I'll be there for the afternoon once she arrives in Westview. Though, I have to transfer from the Queen of Burn- er, I mean Queen of Richmond first.

)I am beside myself with excitement what with watching the Canucks win the presedents trophy on my side bar TV monotur, and the excitement of the upcoming cruise of the Queen of Kelsey Bay. I think I will ask the old man to fly the vintage Canuck flag along with the dogwood flag from the mainstay! and see if we can muster a good toot from her prehistoric horn! as we are backing away from the Kelsey Bay breakwater! :)mrdot.

I am not sure whether you all know that the despite the outward similarity in design/appearance between the QKB & her sister, the QPR, the KB is actually a much faster vessel. This is due to her being equipped with Mirrlees Turbo Deisels...
Due to her extra speed she is scheduled to be in Rupert at the Fairview Terminal tomorrow afternoon, and I will be there. I will be coming aboard during her 3 hour layover and will grab a burger and cinnamon bun in the Aft Cafeteria, while shooting the breeze with Fluge & co. I will have with me the builders plans that I have received for the fourth and final RICE class vessel, the Coastal Experience. It is to begin service at the beginning of April 2012 on the new route 2A, HSB to SWB.
See ya all tomorrow...

I have just got back from my expedition to get some pictures of the elusive 8th sister. As you can see from my signature picture, I was successful. I managed to snap a few pictures before my camera inexplicably stopped working. Hope everyone had fun on the QoKB.

Alas, when I got on board the QKB, the cinnamon buns, and Fluge were gone, I suspect the one with the other. Rumour has it that Fluge was seen with a sack of cinnamon buns while boarding an airplane!

I'm in my stateroom right now, using the ship's free WiFi, and I'm pretty sure it was him I saw taking some overhead pictures as he flew off. He was heading south, likely back down to Nanaimo. I guess somebody got overtaken by cabin fever?

We're currently sailing Northbound in the open Pacific, south of Hecate Strait. Seas are fairly rough, with some waves reaching 3-4 metres in height. Our arrival time in Skidegate is estimated to be about 01:50 tomorrow morning. A few less seaworthy sailors have been seen hurling over side, but the gravol distributed by the crew seems to be holding the worst of it back.
Looking out my stateroom window, -Viking

I must apologize for skipping-out early from the trip that I had planned. I'm glad that some of you are enjoying it.
I have a cinammon hangover now.

Enjoying it we are, but our experience has been dampered a bit by the sudden lack of cinnamon buns. Well, at least we still have the Sunshine Breakfasts. We left Skidegate this morning around 03:00, and we sailed through relatively calm seas up to Ketchikan, arriving there around 09:30. I'm now at the local Starbucks indulging some Pike Place Roast (no cream, no sugar), and we leave tonight at 18:00, expecting to encounter slightly stormy seas, 55 kn. southeasterly winds, and 3 meter seas.
