As everybody is aware (at least I'd hope) Canada is having a federal election on Monday May 2nd.
PLEASE remember to vote, if you haven't already done so at the advanced poll. Staying home because "I don't like anybody" is not acceptable. Educate yourself, pick your favourite and pat yourself on the back for doing your civic duty.

Staying home because "I don't like anybody" is not acceptable. Educate yourself, pick your favourite and pat yourself on the back for doing your civic duty. Agreed, most definitely. The second most annoying thing about this election is all the pundits and observers who lament yet another federal election, as if all this pesky democracy stuff eats into our leisure time. Darn those veterans who served in the wars for inconveniencing us with the continuing freedom to have a hand in our own governance. There are at least three really contentious outcomes that we might see on Monday. Harper might get his majority. The NDP may be on the brink of an historic breakthrough. The Liberals may be on there way to a major implosion. Or, we might have another minority, which in the rest of the world isn't regarded as the tragedy some people here might have you believe it is. Whatever you think about these possibilities, you can't be indifferent. Apathy is ignorance, and the long term effect of people disengaging from the political process is the inevitable usurping of power by corporate interests and various elites who we might not want defining our country. So yes, vote.

Amen Nick. Basically I tell people who don't vote, don't complain. With the net you can't say you can't find out what the parties stand for. Please, take 20 minutes or less and go vote.

We had the mock-election at school today. All 2000 of us were given the opportunity to 'vote'.
Sadly, there's a pretty big group of people trying to be 'cool' who vote for the NDP because "their dude has a rad stash!"
I'm not ashamed to say that I ended up voting Conservative, more for the community aspect. I like how our MP Randy Kamp's been working in the community to better the place, and taking advice of the citizens of MR/PM to heart.

I also would like to encourage everyone to exercise your democratic right and vote on Monday, May 2nd. Speaking of voting, why not take a few seconds to place your vote for our Forum Flagship for May? ;D

The second most annoying thing about this election is all the pundits and observers ...and the first most annoying thing is the Pirate Party ? Pirate Party. Boy. Had to look that one up. Guess I just haven't been following things closely enough. I see you have one running in Nanaimo; the ghost of Frank Ney must be smiling, although I don't think ol' White Shoes would have been up on the PP's concern about copyright infringement. So, no more rhinoceroses, but now we've got pirates. Who says this country is boring? No the most annoying thing- to me- is the offensive personal attacks that seem to be a part of Mr. Harper's stock in trade. I'm not voting Liberal, but those sneering 'Ignatieff- he didn't come back for you' ads make me very grateful for remote controls.

Agreed, those ads make me think less of the Conservatives because they resort to such tactics to get more votes. If they advertised why their candidate is a good choice rather than why the other choices are bad, I would respect the party more. Also I've been getting stupid flyers in the mail from my local Conservative candidate that attack Ignatieff, and they only make me more certain I won't be voting Conservative this election.
