Same boat, but the dock sure was basic around the time Quinsam was launched... this shot sometime around '84.

Interesting shot. I remember the Prince George was tied up at the wharf on the left where the derelict building is in the mid 70's. She sat there for about a year, circa 1975.

In January 2012, BCFerries released their divisional-inquiry report into the August 2011 trestle-damage incident at the Nanaimo Harbour terminal. It's here: www.bcferries.com/files/PDFs/DI8151101_Nanaimo_Harbour.pdfThe things that can go wrong when you communicate instructions to one person, and then that person doesn't pass on the information to the rest of his crew.... ...and the story keeps getting better with the co-owner#1 being unable to attend on that night, and co-owner#2 arriving late. The situation was ripe for an incident.

A pair of time-lapse videos, shot by me on October 19, 2012 on the Gabriola route. - both are at 5x speed.
They show good approach views of each of the 2 terminals on the Gabriola Island - Nanaimo route.

Okay, With the impending moving of the Drop Trailer terminal from Downtown Nanaimo in 2017, It would be a great opportunity for BC Ferries to purchase or lease some of the land that is currently occupied by Seaspan and re-vamp its terminal for Gabriola Island service. I am talking about the Parking lot between the BCF Foot Passenger waiting room and the Seaspan Berth here. Gabriola bound traffic waiting to pay their fare could be taking off of Front Street all together which would help general traffic flow in Downtown. What do you think? Traffic could enter BC Ferries terminal via the same entrance the big Rigs use today, Near the BC Transit Bus Stop.

Isn't that land already sold (or disposed of somehow)?

Isn't that land already sold (or disposed of somehow)? City of Nanaimo has bought it. It's prime waterfront land and the City is likely to put an Arena / Events Centre on part of it. I don't think the City would be interested in selling off a slice to BC Ferries.

I know I'm dreaming here, but wouldn't it be nice to see the City of Nanaimo purchase and preserve the Queen of Nanaimo? Since they already own the site they could moor her in the former Seaspan drop trailer slip.

No news online... anyone know what exactly happened to the trestle at the Penelakut terminal? Service notice announces water taxi service for tomorrow (Dec 21.) but doesn't specify the damage, whether it was from a rough landing by the Kuper, or something else to do with the weather.
