I found another little album! Back on Friday July 29, 1988 I decided to devote an entire day to riding on all 5 C-Class ships. That season, the ship assignments were as follows: #1 DB-Queen of Surrey #2 DB-Queen of Alberni #1 HSB-Queen of Oak Bay (some things never change ;D) #2 HSB-Queen of Coquitlam #1 Langdale-Queen of Cowichan First a couple pics taken the previous day...I had trekked to Giovando Lookout on Newcastle Island to take a couple shots...one of the Oak Bay and one of the Coquitlam: Then the next day, the ferry riding began! 8:00AM sailing Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay: Queen of Alberni departing HSB on her 10:00AM sailing to Departure Bay (no pickle forks yet!): Queen of Oak Bay arriving at HSB for her 11:00AM sailing to DB. No overhead walkways at HSB at that time and foot passengers were usually both loaded and unloaded via the upper car deck: On board the 11:00 sailing: 2:00PM sailing from DB to HSB: 5:30PM sailing from HSB to Langdale: Queen of Coquitlam arriving at HSB at 7:35PM for her 8:00PM sailing to DB: Of course I waited 'til the 9:00PM sailing so I could ride on the Surrey, thus completing my C-class marathon. BTW, it always bugged me that the letter "N" in "Queen" was upsidedown:

Wow! That is an awesome set of pictures. It was nice when each ferry had its own unique sign, but I can't say as I miss that awful orange interior.

That is actually really cool that you'd be able to do that back then. These days it's alot harder to do that, now that those old C-Class girls are getting older, and are getting to spend more time in the dock.
In my mind, that really seems like a really efficient way of shutting back and forth on Route 2 during the really busy times. 4 boats that are darn near exactly the same, providing consistant, and likely hourly service. Obviously that's only needed at certain times these days, but I guess we'll have to live with full boats, with long cafeteria lineups for the whole trip. Actually, I shouldn't say that. Lately, Ferry lineups have been somewhat quiet for the most part....But still, those were the good old days.
I really miss how each C-Class was just a little different interior wise. It kept us Ferry geeks quite nicely entertained, by having the choice of riding the retro orange interior'd Queen of Coquitlam, or the yellowee green and orange Queen of Oak Bay on Route 2.

Busier because of the lack of Route 30. The Alberni must have been awful to be on.
Love the photos, the C's look very sharp in what is my personal favourite BCF paint scheme.
