Given that this photo is taken post-C Class, does this mean that the Langdale Queen and SC Queen are officially mothballed and retired in this photo? Yes, I would say so, though I don't think there was ever any sort of official 'decommissioning'. If we looked at a more recent photo of Deas, say from 2009, that showed 2 V-class vessels tied up you could ask the same question, and the same answer would apply. Re ' northwesterner's comment: Way back when, someone described the Suzie Q as BC Ferries first big double-ender. It is true. At the time she entered service she was larger than any other vessel in the fleet, and carried more cars. I suspect her fuel bill dwarfed any other vessel. The Seven Sisters class ferries became larger only after the stretching program began, in 1969. I have heard it said that BC Ferries got the 'idea' for the big double-ended vessels of 1976 (the original C-class) from their experience with the Suzie Q. However, I suspect that they actually were looking south at WSF's big double-enders, and they said 'we want some of those'.

A community newspaper story on FMU ... From the linked Delta Optimist article a quote: Well, at least one 'dry docking' was done at Deas, a few years back ...

This photo is worth a thousand words! Especially the two on the far right. Alas, BCFS has yet to find a solution to ridding themselves of the 'Queen of Burnaby, ..very mysterious. BCFS's answer to re-introducing the Mid-Coast route appears uh, 'rather puny', actually dwarfed by a 'Salish class' newcomer. One of the best shots of the Fleet Maintenance Unit ever taken!

Well, since we're all stuck in quarantine, I mind as well post an update.
The Queen of Burnaby is STILL at berth 6/7 and BCFS still hasn't moved it.
The Spirit of Vancouver Island was in berth 1 for a really long time, may have moved.
Queen of Oak Bay in berth 3.
The troubled Northern Sea Wolf in berth 5.
And the rest of them are empty. Also, I had a long debate with my dad about whether or not that was the Queen of Burnaby. It was, she still sits there.

I believe she returned to Deas shortly after the Skeena Queen left for Departure Bay to complete the final days of her MLU.

Perhaps she should be repainted in her former pastel blue and white livery and become a floating maritime museum, showcasing British Columbia's rich maritime history. Plenty of parking on the car deck.

Plenty of parking on the car deck. Other than providing extra cash for tug-boat crews, it appears that BCFS wants to keep the dear old Burnaby inside the more secure confines of Deas rather than leave her to fend off the river pirates who could easily take up squatting rights or vandalize her like the poor old 'Sidney'.

I think the Queen of Oak Bay is in Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal.

Northern Sea Wolf is back at Deas Docks via some brief sea trails (AIS) from the Allied North Vancouver ship yard.

I went to deas yesterday. Looks like the north island princess is in berth 1, the northern adventure in berth 3, the northern sea wolf in berth 5, and the queen of Burnaby in 6,7.

Is there anywhere good to “spot” at Deas, besides the parking lot where the Burnaby is.

Is there anywhere good to “spot” at Deas, besides the parking lot where the Burnaby is. Great question, I have been wondering the same thing, for me when I went to go "spot" there was mostly employee parking, there was also a sign that said guest parking, but I took that as guests that had an some sort of appointment, I believe you can email or call the fleet maintenance unit and request a visit, most of the FMU is fenced off to the public, for obvious reasons.

I see, there's also Dyke Road across from Deas but I think its mostly Private Property.

Queen of Oak Bay is out, and Queen of Cumberland is in at Deas today. That was a long stay for Q of OB.

Just watched on AIS, the Mayne Queen depart south Fraser arm from Deas with Island Nagalis right behind. Mayne Q is headed south, Nagalis seems to be headed into sea trail pattern in the strait.
