bump so anyone able to help finish off the list?? when i say manned i was trying to mean both toll booth and ramp person. Using those criteria and looking back over the list, I don't think you could consider Blubber Bay to be manned, as the crew operates the ramp themselves and there is no toll both on the Texada side, although Shane once told us that one of the crew actually lives at the terminal on Texada, in a little fifth-wheel trailer, so maybe that counts.

The guy at earls cove cleans out the cans, adjusts the ramps, manages traffic, counts passengers and cleans logs out of the berths. There is also a cat there he feeds.
On the Discovery Coast, some locals are hired and trained as line handlers. Actually in Shearwater the lines are in just the right spots so that the ship can be docked without anyone on shore. Only the Bella Coola and Bella Bella ports actually have full size ramps. Klemtu and Ocean Falls have floating berths with tiny little hydraulic ramps to allow for the ramp on the ship to rest on the barges and then at Shearwater the ships crew have to hand balm little ramps onto the barge when he ships ramp rests on it.
Cheers,

I have noticed video cameras at B.C. Ferry terminals and wonder how long they have been monitoring the traffic boarding the ferry at Tsawassen with video footage. I also want to know how long the web cam coverage of Tsawassen has been available to us.

As far as I know, video monitoring has been used at all the major terminals since the terminal modernization back in the early 90's. The number of cameras has increased drastically in the past few years though, especially post-911.
The webcams on BC Ferries' website have been around since 2004, I think. They may have been there earlier.

If there was an extra ship would route #30 be able to have MD sailings, Is there enough berth space especially a Duke Point?

If there was an extra ship would route #30 be able to have MD sailings No, there wouldn't be any MD sailings used on Route 30. MD sailings would be only considered for Routes 1 and 2. Is there enough berth space especially a Duke Point? No, Duke Point does not have an extra berth to support a second ship based there. But with proper timing they wouldn't have any issues with berth space provided there.

Yes - there is a two hour window with no vessel at Duke Point that can be used. Tsawwassen is more or less a non-issue.

If there was an extra ship would route #30 be able to have MD sailings, Is there enough berth space especially a Duke Point? Theoretically, it would be possible as long as the sailings were timed correctly. The crossing time is long enough that one ship could have time to load and unload at Duke Point while the other two were either underway or at Tsawwassen. The only issue is, would the traffic warrant an extra ship, or would that spread traffic out so much so that all the ships are running half-empty.

Saturna Island (Lyall Harbour) - Not manned I was at Lyall Harbour today, and there was a BCFS employee manning the ramp, from the shore. When we left on the ship, she was still on the shore, in her BCFS uniform. NewFlyer & I joked that she probably also works at the nearby pub/store.

Technically, you could say Mill Bay and Brentwood are manned... Sure it is the actual ferry crew doing it, but they do sometimes stand by the little shack at the end of the ramp and collect the fares.

It's the only boat in the fleet where you can be qualified as an engineer if you've run the equipment for a Jim's Mowing franchise...

Super list of terminal information. At Bear Cove, if you talk real nice to the folks in the office they will let you leave your vehicle parked in their lot if one wants to do a return trip up to Prince Rupert etc. Very friendly, helpful staff at Bear Cove and the folks I met, have a wonderful sense of humour and small town niceness to them. It would be nice to see their cheeryness rub off on staff at a few terminals who shall go unnamed:) Great crew up there!

At Bear Cove, if you talk real nice to the folks in the office they will let you leave your vehicle parked in their lot if one wants to do a return trip up to Prince Rupert etc. On a June 2008 overnight trip I took from Bear Cove, we used the regular ferry-travelers parking lot at Bear Cove, and there was space available to use. So there was no need to use the employee lot, as the regular long-term parking lot was ok. Very friendly, helpful staff at Bear Cove and the folks I met, have a wonderful sense of humour and small town niceness to them. It would be nice to see their cheeryness rub off on staff at a few terminals who shall go unnamed:) Great crew up there! My June 2008 experience was different. I encountered a different kind of staff at Bear Cove, re the ticket-booth lady. See my trip report at ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=gt&action=display&thread=3777, reply #14 (bottom part of that post) for my experience with the ticket booth lady. I've had good experiences at all terminals I've been to. Bad experiences at only a few, and those usually were just re 1 employee (not the whole lot).

On all my trips I parked at one of the two motels rather than use the lot. I was told by reservations there was no parking at the Terminal.
When I was waiting for the ferry the last time I went North, someone arrived and wanted to park in the lot. They were turned away and had to go back to the campground near the turn off to Bear Cove and since the shuttle van was gone had to taxi it back. They barely made it on the ferry. Now I don't know how long they wanted to park or any details.

Does Tssawwassen have 4 doubledecked berths because aerial photographs only show 3 ?

Quadra Island ( Herriot bay) - UnStaffed Cortes Island (Whaletown) - UnStaffed So how do the logistics for this route actually play out? Do you pay in Campbell River? What if you are on Quadra and head over to Cortes? I'm curious. Does Tssawwassen have 4 doubledecked berths because aerial photographs only show 3 ? Only Berths 3, 4 & 5 have two ramps. Berths 1 & 2 are only single ramp.

There is a staff member at Heriot Bay that collects fares and facilitates traffic loading. The person is not there full time, and only comes for the period of time the ship is in dock. Fares at Heriot Bay are cash only, if you want to use an experience card or credit you need to buy a ticket in Campbell River.
At both Heriot Bay and Whaletown the ramps are controlled by ship crew members.
The case of non-full time terminal attendants/ticket agents/equipment operators is actually fairly common. Sturdies Bay operates on a split-shift, as does Saturna. Port Hardy and Prince Rupert operate on a call-in basis, where they have to show up when the ship is scheduled.

Thanks Nick, for the info. That makes a lot of sense for Heriot Bay. The Terminals lost abive in this thread says 4 double births. Those darn 'losts abive'. . .they're so difficult to make 100% accurate! ;D 4 double births. . .That's a whole lot of babies! ;D ;D
