Last evening, I spent some time search through the Vancouver archives website, for ship photographs. I found quite a few old steamship photos, North-Van ferry photos, and early BCFerries photos.
I tried to post a bunch of links last night, be none of them were usable, because the browser-address that I cut/pasted only linked back to my search activity, which had expired.
- The links worked fine for me, but not for anyone else.
So, I'll use this thread to let you know what I found, so that you can find it too. And who knows, maybe someone will figure out how to post links to those photos....
Here's the webpage:
vancouver.ca/ArchivesSearch/SearchPhotos.aspx
- I did my search on the word "ferries" and I found 198 results, not all with viewable photographs, but that's the gold-mine that I found.
-----------------
I noted 2 main contributors of collections:
1) Major Matthews
2) Walter E. Frost. This is the collection that you want to spend some time viewing, so do a search on "ferries" to see his ship work, or on his name to see all his ships and steam-trains.
If you want to enjoy some time, do a search for Mr. Frost's photos.
- or just search "ferries" and scroll through the 198 items (but not all the 198 items have viewable photos).
- if you search for the 2 words "Frost & ferries" you'll get 70 wonderful results, which you'll enjoy....
Mr. Frost's collection includes:
- a series of photos of BCF ships arriving at Horseshoe Bay, in mid 1960s. ie. Burnaby in 1965, same the Nanny & New West.....
- Texada, Quadra & Comox Queens at Vancouver harbour, shortly after launching.
etc.
spend some time and enjoy these collections....
