They're going to need another Olympic (ideally in 2019 or 2020) to replace the Tillikum. Ideally they're going to have to build a total of eight Olympics to fully replace the Evergreens, Supers, and the Hiyu. Hopefully, at least two of them will have larger passenger cabins with capacity for 2000 passengers in order to have enough passenger capacity for the Bremerton ferry route. EGFleet posted this earlier, but I will repeat it here: Tillikum is technically replaced by Chimacum, even though they haven't retired her yet. I am speculating here, but I don't think Tillikum will be retired until Sealth can replace her as the inter-island ferry, and I don't see Sealth being freed up from F-V-S until they write a schedule for 3 Issaquah 124's. Tokitae replaced Evergreen State Samish replaced Klahowya Chimacum replaced Tillikum (though Tillikum is still in active service) Suquamish will replace Hyak Yes, 8 Olympics would be nice to have. I think we will be lucky to get 7.

That's lame that WSF is essentially replacing eight boats with 7 (though the Hiyu wasn't really useful, it would be nice to have a legit backup ferry). Hopefully, once the Supers are retired, there will be a lot less vessel breakdowns, since the Jumbos and especially the Issaquahs seem to be pretty steady-running boats. Let's hope that they don't start breaking down more. Knock on wood...

What are the chances that we actually do take delivery of the seventh Olympic class vessel in time? The supers only have so much life left in them and call me a pessimist but the way we find our Ferries, were not going to get three more approved and built before each super is spending more time being fixed than carrying passengers and vehicles. We needed a 5th to be approved this year. That did not happen. When it comes time to replace the Issaquahs WSF is going to need to have a really good funding plan in place to replace the 6 vessels in rapid succession.

What kind of Whistles do the Olympics use? My friend and I have been wondering I want to say Kahlenbergs, but I'd have to look to be absolutely sure.

When will it [Suquamish] come in service? It would help you to read through the Forum topics before posting a single sentence question that likely has been answered. See four posts above this one.

I was out on Elliott Bay today and saw an Olympic out on the bay doing some sea trials. It wasn’t showing up on Marine Traffic so I assumed it was Suquamish. Sure enough based upon WSF’s vessel watch page all other Olympics are in action today elsewhere. Was I lucky enough to see the Suquamish under her own power for the first time?

Also I was unable to get any photos. I was working the whole time she was close enough to photograph. On top of that I only had my phone on me.

The others are indeed all accounted for, so... yes, it would seem you did! At very least early sea trials.

She’s looking good. Looked from a distance like she was running well. Got up to some good speed out in the shipping lane. Nothing that I could see from her that could be problematic. Am I correct in assuming that the Olympics besides the Tokitae’s ramps initially and the tiny holes in Samish have been well built, reliable boats? Since Hyak got a temporary lease on life are we going to have 8 144s this fall once Elwha is out o maintenance and Suquamish is operational, or will a Super yet to be named be put into limbo sort of like where Klahowya is now and where Evergreen State and Nisqually were for much of last decade. Retired but not sold.

Suquamish is currently sitting at Harbor Island looking pretty. However the lower car deck windows are either covered in plastic, or have been BC Ferries style blanked out completely. I haven’t been close enough to see it clearly but I’m hoping it’s just plastic. The boats are criticized for having small cabins. There would be even more people in the cabin if the windows on the car deck are non existent.

That’s how it appears from Pier 55. I will be on the bay tomorrow. I’m going to try to get a really good look at her and see if they are indeed plated over. I hope that they are not. I would venture to guess that I’m not alone. It would sure make Suquamish distinctive among the rest of the class.

They did this on the others.

From my observation earlier, it looks like it is just plastic, since the other side does not have the bottom windows covered up.
