According to Siitech the CI has left the Bay at DPB and is travelling at 19.9 knots

She'd better not hog the berth at DKP, as the QoCow still has a full load to disembark there.

Somehow I don't think that it is going to be a huge problem; remember that Rte-30 has a very high rate of getting back on schedule from late departures - so long as there aren't any stalls on the decks, it takes a lot less time to unload trucks than it does with cars - plus, seeing as how most truckers are paid weight X distance (miles X pounds), sitting idling with $1.60/litre diesel on a boat making 0 miles is not in their best financial interest.

at 3:10 The cow has stopped just West of Gabriola Island and the CI is still in dock at DP

I'm thinking the CI is actually taking on her first load of passengers and vehicles. Then she'll depart on her first official sailing, allowing the QoCow to dock at DKP afterwards to unload.

I'm glad I decided to wait for my first trip on the CI as I would be on the Cow right now and planning to get on the CI for the 3:15 sailing

CI UNDERWAY! CI UNDERWAY!
And she's passing the QoCow green-to-green.
Wow! Zero to service speed in just five minutes!

I was on the damned Cowichan. The whole maneuver was planned from the get go, as they announced it on the Cow just after we left Tsawwassen. Needless to say, I was not pleased. We also ended up being about 45 minutes late, which definitely pissed off a lot of people on board. I did manage to get some good pics of the CI, though. They will be posted shortly

Me Scott and Orcasnative were on the 3:15pm sailing and were pissed off too that they dident allow the Cowichan to dock first. A 2hr sailing for you guys turns into a 2hr and 45 mins sailing almost. Not alot of happy people on the Cowichan I bet.

Like Alex I went out on the Cowichan and didn't make the CI - lame.
Then began my battle against BC Ferries for compensation for the trip which I only took because their very own press release encouraged me too. Having over the last eights hours called Tsawwassen, Duke Point, Fleet House, the 1888 # and Impark I ended up getting a ride from DP to DB to catch the 5pm to Horseshoe Bay. My car is still in Tsawwassen, but that's an ordeal for tomorrow. I'm working in Richmond so at least I'll be half way too it!
CI looked great though!

They will be posted shortly Once again, BC Ferries missed the boat here. It defies logic that the Cowichan just sat there waiting for the new ship to leave the berth to make the crossing that much longer. Common sense would be to unload the traffic first and then have the fanfare of the brand new ferry. Obviously, it seems the Queen of Fort Street have no sense at all!

I'm sure BCF wanted the fanfare of the CI's first sailing to be on time. BTW, seems like the waits on Route 30 for overheights have disappeared.

I lost my Coastal-virginity today, and got Coastalized, on Route-30.
A few things that I noticed on the C-Inspiration:
- at the entrance to the upper car decks at each end, there's a 2.90 metres max-height sign. Except that it's using the European style of decimals, so it says "2,90".
- deck 5 wasn't being used, of course. As you enter the ship as a foot-pax via the overhead-walkway, a crew member meets you at the ship door and explains that deck-5 is closed and that you must go up 1 flight of stairs.
- on the main car deck, near one of the ends, is a table with a few of today's newspapers. So the downstairs truckers have their own newspaper supply.....
- the main car decks sure seem narrow at the bottleneck entrances at the bow & stern.
- the urinals look like salad bowls.
- in the Deck-7 end solariums, noise carries loudly re natural amplification.
- re doors to enter-exit the outside of Deck-7: these are only on 1 side of the ship, and none on the other. Strange......
- there are small seating areas on Deck-5 near the outside doors, that are not closed off. So when getting ready to leave the ship via the overhead-walkway, a pax can stay inside and sit down until the ramp is ready.
- the Passages giftshop book selection has a lot of books that I already own. I guess that means that I love BC Books.

- the urinals look like salad bowls. Those are salad bowls. It's a German thing, to build them into the walls like that. It's part of a new program to get people to eat healthier, by providing free salad samples. Sometimes they're empty. Omigawd, don't tell me you...

As you enter the ship as a foot-pax via the overhead-walkway, a crew member meets you at the ship door and explains that deck-5 is closed and that you must go up 1 flight of stairs. To save work, that could be done simply with a sign on a velvet rope. - in the Deck-7 end solariums, noise carries loudly re natural amplification. I think that's to give you more of an experience of Coastal BC, kind of like if you're on a pleasure boat on the Strait.
