The Queen of Surrey approaching Langdale for the 6:30 sailing to Horseshoe Bay on November 21st, 2010: You can see the silhouettes of the Coast Mountains in the background, looking suspiciously like the Golden Ears... And almost there. Sorry for the blurriness in that first one. I took about 70 pictures, sorted through them, and these were the only suitable two for posting. All the others were even more blurry. A question, do they always use the searchlight during nighttime dockings? When I watch the night landings of ferries in Vineyard Haven on mvtimes.com, the SSA ferries usually use their searchlight(s) to do a visual sweep of the Vineyard Haven area before committing to enter the terminal slip's "runway". I took my first ride aboard the STEILACOOM II on November 12, 2010. Just recently. This was a night ride, too! Neat experience. The STEILACOOM II has her searchlight on to sweep the area ahead of her as she enters the "runway" into Keystone Harbor. The searchlight is off and the floodlights are on so the navigators can see the dock. The use of exterior Passenger Deck lights are at the discretion of the people on the bridge. The passenger lounge may be dimmed when needed (like in fog). The Main Deck lights may also be dimmed when underway, as seen by me in my stay at Port Townsend on "CHETZEMOKA Weekend". Keystone Harbor. STEILACOOM II in Port Townsend after the crossing. They usually turn off the floodlights after landings so drivers of cars don't get blinded when boarding. This landing procedure is similar in the rest of the WSF fleet. The folks running BCF may have their way of doing things.

I have some snowy photos with ferries, unfortunately, most can't really be cropped to keep the ferry and the snow for a flagship banner entry. Here's a photo of the Queen of Surrey from two years ago during out last white Christmas:

Some shots of the Queen of Surrey from very recently: Taken from Soames Hill. Taken from North Road, near Soames Hill. And the forward lounge. The box that holds the window-shades works great as a table for cafeteria food ;D

Surrey (left) and Coquitlam (right) en route to Langdale from HSB. The Coquitlam is in-service for the 7:50pm departure while the Surrey is out of service and returning to Langdale after refit.

Two photos from my return trip from spending a week at my summer cottage on the Sunshine Coast. Queen of Surrey and Queen of Coquitlam pass each other off of Langdale. Queen of Surrey slowly glides into Berth 1 for an on-time arrival.

Atmospheric haze/low quality due to distance. Both shots were taken from a distance of about 8.5km.

Here are my photos of the Queen of Surrey from Saturday, July 30th (2011). Nearing Langdale, while I am on the Coquitlam departing berth 1. Docking in Langdale. Notice the heat... After almost completing my roundtrip, I am back near Langdale. Here the Queen of Surrey waits off of Gambier Island, with her minimum crew. I guess it's easier then swapping berths a couple of times. I love the scenery in Howe Sound. That's all for the Queen of Surrey!

Which of the other C-class ships have these? I remember several years ago having to use this ramp to access the upper car deck at Langdale. I seem to recall that there was only one ramp, but I could be wrong. Do they have one on each side or is it just on one side? It sure makes loading a lot slower!

I believe that the ramps are on both sides of the ship. ...But then I also thought only the Coquitlam and Cowichan had these ramps installed, and now I'm wondering if either of them really had them installed at all... so don't bother trusting my facts on these ramps...

The Cowichan, Coquitlam, Oak Bay, and Surrey have these ramps. The Alberni was never fit with these due to a lack of Gallery deck, and of course she was originally a single car decked ferry. There is only one of them on each ship, and they're located Amidships on the Port side. Think of the #1 end (Nanaimo/Langdale ends) as being the bow to figure out the true port side. Loading the upper deck must be a real pain as there would be lots of turning traffic involved, so I'm sure they try to keep as much traffic on Decks 2 and 3 as possible to avoid having to send cars up to Deck 4
